he even sayed that the programme shown before the chart shows came on was getting more viewers, think this was just new music videos

so we really need to spread the word and get more viewers otherwise we could lose the chart show altogether

we spoke about different viewing times and i recommened later at nights at the weekend for the pub crowd etc so i think this is a trial with the repeat”

I've been watching and enjoying the Chart Show repeats too, but I've missed a few recently because I've just forgotten when they've been on, and maybe other viewers are experiencing this too; what makes it worse is the fact that if you put the Classic Chart Show on your Sky box reminder list, you can only mark individual episodes and not the whole series through the Series Link option, so maybe you can ask Matt if he can get Sky to do this.

The timeslots could certainly be better as well; 11am on a Saturday isn't long after I've got up, so maybe it could be put in the same 5pm slot that it occupies on Thursdays.

Again, this week's show is getting another airing now (Midnight - 0100am), although it is not in the EPG

It is definitely 24 August 1991 edition.

I can also confirm 100% yesterdays was 24/8/1991.

Something I really want to point out is this which apepared straight after the end of the second part. While it was obviously shown in error, it's unlikely this will have been made and loaded onto the system unless they were planning on showing an episode from 1986. Maybe they've had at least a handful of tapes transferred, or some have been transferred in the past for different reasons (the Robert Palmer footage & graphics montage from the final episodes is a possibility). It's intriguing anyway.

just got this from Matt at The Vault

Quote:
“Hiya - hope you had a good weekend

Good thinking on the Sky Planner series link... that's been done for
this
Saturday 11am and will hopefully be sorted for if people would prefer
to
Sky Planner the repeats by the end of the day.

I don't get the viewing figures for the weekend until tomorrow but last
week with the midnight showing was pretty encouraging so hopefully it
will stick!

matt”

good news then

have pointed out it wasnt advertised on the EPG this time for the midnight repeat

Sounds good. I also personally think that a weekday 10pm or 11pm repeat would be a good idea, as that's likely to catch people who work full time and/or shifts who might be at work during the Saturday & Thursday showings or have kids (as they're likely to be watching kids shows at those times). Just a thought.

I've just seen another "What year did this episode of The Chart Show air?" thing similar to the one above (obviously shown in error again- as the Chart Show isn't even showing!) that says 1989. So now I've seen one with 1986 and one with 1989- there may well be variants for 1987, 88, 93, 94 and 95 as well (obviously, the 1991, 92, 96, 97 and 98 ones have been shown during the episodes from those years). Surely they must have converted at least a handful of tapes? As I said, it's unlikely they'll have been made and loaded onto the servers if they weren't planning on showing episodes from these years.

Looks like June 29th 1996 today.

Still intrigues about the 1986 & 1989 things though, and I hope we get to see episodes from these years (and all the others) eventually.

Ha, 3 lions at Number One. May I point out that it was the first single I ever bought. Then I dropped the tape and it smashed.......

I notice with the post 1996 relaunch they have a copuple of songs featuring the artist talking about the release etc, but the sound quality of the speech is terribly poor. Is it the same for others?

It was certinally the case for quite a while after they introduced them, though it improved towards the end. I guess all they had was a small room with a blue screen, a camera and a microphone, so there's probabally plenty of reasons why it doesn't sound too good. The one today, you could still see a ring of blue round Caroline Quentin and Leslie Ash where they hadn't keyed out the blue screen properly. No problems with Belinda Carlisle though.

Just seen a trailer for this weeks- looks like the first episode of 1998, with a viewer voted countdown of the best 20 songs of 1997.

I'll be honest, I hate these trailers because I sort of like the suprise of not knowing what episode's going to be shown. But if it gets people to watch who didn't know about the repeats, then it's a good thing.

I wonder how well the repeats are doing since the addition of the midnight repeat? I hope they do well enough for them to feel it's worth it to transfer the old tapes- like others, I really want to see some 1986-1990 and 1993-95 episodes.

While I'm here- I'll say a quick hi to you at havenforum.co.uk- I know you're reading this

I'll take a guess and say Saturday, December 27, 1997. Pure guesswork, but there was probably no normal chart that week, with Christmas (The Spice Girls would have been at #1, with Too Much had there been a chart, having entered at #1 the previous weekend). The next Saturday date would have been January 3, 1998 and surely there would have been a new chart by then? It seems a bit late to do a review of 1997 as late as that...

It is pure guesswork though, so I could be wrong.

I have the Radio Times from that period, there was no edition shown on Saturday 27 December, 1997, and the special was shown on Saturday 03 January, 1998, at 11.30.

Yeah I used to have a copy of that show on VHS which was definitely on the 3rd of January as it had the credits of the first edition of the final series of Scratchy and Co just before.
A sense of relief considering it replaced the truly dire Tricky from the Autumn which I believe was produced by Chart Show creator Keith McMillan!

Also in the ad-breaks it had the winner of the "Refresh Your Head" competition get her face printed on Tizer bottles although none of them saw the light of day for some reason.

Funnily enough, Tricky still exists, sort of. He's on Pop, with a dodgy Scottish accent (done by the same bloke who does the announcements on all the Chart Show Channels) and now called Rorry. I'm sure Tricky was actually produced by Gail Screene, but she had also been on the Chart Show production team right from the start.
