I'm hoping someone can help me. I have recently bought a new tv and a dvd player and have been trying to set them up. unfortunately i no longer have the instructions because i have moved house since buying them (but before properly setting them up).

So, I have just had to guess at how to set them up. The TV is all sorted and set up but I'm having problems with the DVD player. I have plugged it in and connected it to the TV with a scart cable and switched it on. There is a button on my tv remote which is for 'externals' and when i press for that channel it says 'dvd' in small letters on the screen so i guess that's the right channel.

But, when i turn my dvd player on nothing else happens. I was hoping for a set up menu to come up automatically but it's just a blank screen.

Anyone got any suggestions as to how to start the set up process? (I have tried pressing everything on the remote, including 'set up' but nothing happens). I'm not sure whether there's still something I should be doing to make the TV 'recognise' the DVD player.

There is no VCR or anything else attached - just a non-digital tv and a dvd player.

Any help for a techno-illiterate would be gratefully received.
