Now that I have got my new dvd recorder and new freeview box I would like to get a universal remote control that will do the business and get rid of all the clutter. Preferably one that has a learning function. i don't know if this post is in the right place but any comments would be welcome

I went for the All4one 7555. It controls upto 5 units, has learning function and a macro function. This allows one button to perform multiple tasks at once. I use it to turn on the TV, amp and Sky with one button. It was £25 in Currys.

I seen this in Currys today but didn't have my glasses with me to read the small print. When it has a key for dvd I take it that means either a player or a recorder. Not one or the other, what with dvd recorders being relatively new does the remote work them.

I have used the DVD button for my LG player and I reassigned the VCR button to be a DVD button and set that up with the code for a Panny DVD recorder.

I saw one of the One4All remotes in Comet at £17.99 and John Lewis at £12.99.Quite a difference in price for the same item.It was only a basic remote for Tv. It didn't work for my Technomate sat receiver.

Sorry for being so thick but I take it I would just tune my dvd recorder into the vcr button of the universal remote.

richer sounds do the cambridge audio m1+, its easy to set up, you point your existing controls at it and it duplicates the signal, so no codes to type in, and it works with anything. its lcd so you show or hide the buttons you need.

philips do a range (called proto I think), and there supposed to be good - there also lcd, and you can change the layout of buttons etc to a higher degree than the m1+ but they cost more.

And if they are like Lidl sometimes when you get there certain specials are gone.

Having ordered the Kameleon 2nd generation 8204 I am now awaiting its arrival. However, after having a google I can't see anything which makes it future proof. Can anybody tell me what I do if one of my devices does not work with it. I was looking on the One For All website and clicked on the find me a remote. I clicked in my requirements, ie dvd recorder, tv and freeview box and they came up with this one for a recommendation as well as others. This is the one I selected but I am worried that my devices might be too modern for it. What do I do? Do I need to throw this in the bin or will they be able to do something for me.

The £5.99 Aldi one is amazing, It has all the code built in so you just choose the device and scroll through the codes until you get the one that works - I didnt have to use the code book once setting up 6 devices!
Looks great with mini joystick and a slick black/silver design. I have a £70 Harmony remote, I just saw it while food shopping and just put it in the basket - £5.99 for a Universal learning remote?? Just great

cambridge audio m1
Ahh the originally titled "Angel Learning Remote" - bought one back in the last century - still got it, somewhere. Works, but the panel isn't tactile (no buttons) - you need to turn on the backlight and look at it.

Mmmm that's not the traditional description of a "Learning" remote - the Aldi seems more to me to be a pre-programmed remote, it can't learn codes not already embedded within it's memory. Still great value for money though, by the sounds of it.

Yes it can- it can learn from any original remote. The blurb says it can store 150 'learnt' codes- which is very handy because I've not yet come across a single 'programmed' code that will provide all of the basic controls for both my Pace and Technosonic PVR's, nor any programmable code at all for my DMTech TV, nor my Auvion HDD recorder. I reckon I've keyed in about 70 'learnt' codes so far, but when I try and do any more I'm getting a 'Learn Error' regardless of what I try to 'teach' it!! My only guess is that the promised 150 'learning' spaces is not accurate..hmm..unlike Tevion to make inflated claims over their equipments capabilities, isn't it??

Another problem- using either of the SKY+ codes will control all the switching over..etc..etc.., but it will not give the recording or playback functions.

That apart, it' s a decent looking thing- keys are quite well laid out, though I'd have preferred the record/playback in the middle though, it makes the operation a bit more 'fiddly' with them at the bottom. If I can find codes for my missing equipment, it will be a great buy!!

Well then, I'd agree - but your original description said it had all the code built in - if it can learn from an original remote as well, then that is great value.

I'll go and get one myself, actually.

Make that two - 1 to replace the 6 I have in one room, and the 5 I have in another.

I went to Lidl today and bought an 8 in 1 remote for £4.99. I know there was a remote sold last week by Aldi but I don't have an Aldi near me. Anyway this remote seems to handle 3 digit codes but can it handle 4 digit codes?
One of my sat receivers a Technomate has a code of 1283 or 1610 but I can't see how to put in a 4 digit code on this particular remote.
I got it to work my Thomson Tv which is a 3 digit code.

Anyone have any idea if this remote can work a Technomate ?

Anybody who has bought the amazing Lidl 8-1 learning remote been able to set it up with SkyHD? It has codes for Sky and Sky Digital but I have not been able to get these to work on my HD box. Tried learning etc but no joy. Also contacted SupportPlus support (!?!) and they just pointed me towards the learning function.

Operates everything else though!!
