Opinions on Mark Fowler
After last nites emotional and outstanding episode of Eastenders, it got me thinking of Mark Fowler again. He was truly a great character, one of the best and most inspiring and I really miss him. What everyone at that table said was true.
I was wondering what other peoples thoughts on Mark are? Did u like him/hate him find him boring etc? |

I liked him! I found it really sad when he left the square, and he was saying bye to Pauline, Martin, Sharon, Ian etc, and they gave him a jacket which said, 'Walford' on. It was also very emotional when we found out he had died. Bless him..

The best thing that Sonia said in the episode was that Mark couldn't even stay in Walford to die because Pauline drove him away and he knew she would just make him feel guilty (something like that anyway).

Still, it was great that Pauline finally remembered that she has a dead son - she mentions Arthur (who she should be over by now) all the time but Mark's barely been mentioned since he died. I'm glad they're linking this into her depression as there can't be anything worse than losing your child. As a character, I don't miss Mark in the slightest. |

I always thought he wanted to be a hard man. A bit like Charlie Slater. Suddenley he is Rocky and the next minuite someone is bigger and tougher. I remember his argumants with Phil and he took a swing and Phil just grabbed his head stuck it to the bar and threatened him. One of my fav scenes.

Mark was hard!! there was 1 christmas episode where mark and his flatmate had a runaway girl staying with them. her dad was abusing her so mark went round there and gave him a good kicking!
Mark really was great, Todd Carty played the character so well and he made Eastenders great in the 13 years he was there. Some people say he was boring, over the past two years ive been watching the episodes of eastenders on ukgold, and the ones where mark found out about lisas affair were really brilliantly acted by todd, and the weeks leading up to his final exit were amazing as mark stuggled with suicide and trying to tell everyone of his illness. and finallly, the episode in whcih he left was so emotional i was crying. i even taped it because it was such a moving episode and a fitting end to one of my all time favourite eastenders characters. oh and when todd moved onto the bill as the evil PC Kent, he was just as great!!!! |

I hated Sonia on Friday night!!!
Ok Pauline has been a cow to her but Sonia broke her sons heart by leaving him for another woman!! Do you think Carol Jackson would be happy if she was there and Martin left Sonia for another man? The comments about Mark were untrue as well! Mark was Paulines rock after Arthur died!! |

Mark was never the most exciting character but he was a good solid character who served the show well during his 18 years (13 years played by Todd Carty).

Can agree that he added some "stability" to the show, though, the same way Ian and Pauline do, even if I am no big fan of neither...

I love both characters Todd Carty played. Anybody know what he is doing next?

I think when any characters leave, whether they are good or bad, new characters always replace them, not leaving much room for old ones to be missed. I think occasionally when characters leave that it's a shame and the soap won't be the same but within a week there are new storylines to get your teeth into.

I liked Mark, he was a good character, i don't overly miss him though. He did truly love Pauline though, and Pauline didn't drive him away like Sonia said.

Sonia is the reason why Pauline has become a less appealing character to the masses. However, I thought that having Sonia as a daughter-in-law would drive any one a bit crazy.

Mark Fowler was one of the show's true legends and should never have been killed off. That was one of the most stupid things Berridge did (although the only sensible thing she ever did was writing her letter of resignation).
