I think it's partly the 'they've had their turn' feeling, and partly the comparison - when I see Emma I think she's good but she's not Jill, and Lilia&Matt feel like Darren Gough all over again (My favourite - that got me watching the show - was Lilia and Aled). Please understand - I'm not saying I'm right to feel like this and I'm not criticising anyone, but I think it is a factor, personally. I also think, though, that Lilia is the best teacher of all of them.”
I would try harder to resist it. The pairings are not decided by the couples - its entirely random if you end up with someone with chemistry with you or someone who won last year or someone the viewers like or not - so why reward it or penalise it on top of rewarding the actual performances? They all have partners in real life wheras some people seem to be voting on the Mills and Boon ticket.
The comparisons don't work either . Emma
isn't as good as Zoe but Carol isn't as good as Emma
or Zoe and Louisa is less consistent than Emma and less good than Zoe. if you have to vote for someone you have to compare the class of 2006 with each other not the better people of 2005. Basically if you ruled out everyone who was worse than their counterparts in previous years you would end up with no one to support. No one this year is as good as Colin or Zoe and even Mark lacks the journey story and the attack that won it for Darren.
Having said that I think you are are probably right to worry about history repeating itself - not because its wrong for similar winners to turn up but because its wrong if hunky sports people who are surprisingly good or who develop from bad to good on the show keep on winning just because the voters vote for the same old story/hunk every year - regardless of how well anyone else dances. We are heading for a Matt, Mark, Louisa final when its entirely arguable that Emma, Spooney or Ray are better or were potentially better than one or two of those finalists.
