Should EE be renamed the Slater Show
Can't help thinking that the only people living in Albert Square these days is the Slater Family. Over the past 18months or so, nearly all major storylines seem to have centred arounf this family:
Kat/ Uncle Harry Kat/Zoe - mother /daughter Zoe - running away (twice!) Little Mo/Trevor Kat/Zoe/Anthony - Love triangle Gary/Lynn/Lauras baby Why are the producers so interested in this particular family. Don't get me wrong, the stories involving them are very good, but no wonder so many characters are getting the axe, when all the best storylines are going to the Slaters. They could have played up the Robbie Jackson and father story more, but he's now getting the axe. I jst think it is time for the Eastenders producers to leave the Slaters for a while and concentrate on the other characters, otherwise it becomes boring and almost unbelievable that so much could happen to just one family. What do others think?? |

Eastenders was getting quite boring when the Slaters joined, then I was sick of some of the characters and I thought it was good how this new Family were being developed properly and given some good storylines. It's nice to have some new people involved in Storylines, but they are still running otherones alongside their main ones and the only big Storylines at the moment is Laura and Ians baby which is yet to be seen if it's Garrys and what happened to Lisa. I think those comments made by Jack Ryder is just him being bitter because he's lost his job. They are getting rid of a lot of people, but Characters such as Robbie and Nita weren't going anywhere and they have brought in new ones too such as Kate, Alfie, Spencer and Nanna Moon as well as Kerry? and they are now bringing back Vicki Fowler.

The Slaters were brought in to liven things up - as a new family we needed to know something about their past history and background and there would have been no point just bringing them in to be wallpaper.
Once the Kat/Anthony story has ended then they've just about exhausted the major stories and hopefully will move on to someone else. We HAVE had Alfie Moon, Jamie's death, Laura's baby recently. The big Christmas stories were Jamie and Laura. I suppose things are going to happen around a family like the Slaters. |

It wasn't that long ago though that the Jacksons dominated every story too.
Carol/David/Bianca Carol/Alan/Frankie Bianca/Ricky miscarriage/wedding/liam the bank robbers/kidnapping Carol/Bianca/Dan etc etc etc We'll probably see the same thing happen with the Slaters. Actresses like Jessie Wallace and Kasey Ainsworth won't stay with Eastenders forever and will go off the same way that Lindsay Coulson and Patsy Palmer did. |

Even the Laura storyline is focusing round the Slaters though, with Gary's involvement!

Obviously there have been other storylines in the last year, but the really big ones, the ones that people have been talking about, have been Slater storylines. |

I'm not overfond of the Slaters myself, but there is a real lack of strong characters in EE at the moment, so it's not surprising that they are over-represented in terms of plot development. That said, I think it is a bit wearing.

Yeah I think that the Slaters storylines will slow down a bit as they focus on other Characters more. At the moment we have the Ricky and Natilie affair, Phil and Kate/ what happened to Lisa and the Alfie Moon story so I think these ones will be the big storylines for until Febuary at least, I don't think anything more "major" is planned for the Slaters except Kat getting Pregnant, but she runs away, so that doesn't really count.

At least in Coronation Street we have breaks of Richard, but in Eastenders it seems to try and fit the other stories in around the Slater ones, which drag on for ages.
