I know product placement aint allowed, or is that just me, but why do the producers always come up with such crap alternatives.........

Darren in Eastenders sells something online on "E-Buy" ... not eBay!!

And in the Rovers, i've heard some1 ask for a pint of "Fosberg" .... it's like half Fosters and half Carlsberg!!

Surely it would be more realistic to show the real brands and the real websites as it would be more representative of real life.

Well they often do, Jimmy King got into his Vauxhall Monaro in Emmerdale today, but the search engine they use on their computers is called "Poodle". As the law stands no-one can pay for product placement but they can lend things (e.g. cars) for free. They might be changing the law soon though. Twenty minute chat about the merits of Guinness in the Woolpack anyone?

Generally, the BBC is more able to 'get away' with having product placement, so it happens more often. We see a wider range of real brands in BBC programmes than those on ITV, Channel 4 or five.

It'll be interesting to see what bbc2 does with heroes, there is a huge amount of product placement in it but they'd have to cut key scenes to get rid of it.

In EE's Minute Mart and Hollyoaks Drive 'n' Buy they sell real products. You can often see cadburys chocolate, or nestle cereal.
The minute mart sells lottery tickets with the proper sign, and Walford post office has the proper sign

Thing that I find funny in Eastenders is that in the Minute Mart a lot of the items are from Lidls which you would not be able to sell in other shops.

Product placement may not be officially allowed but prop houses which supply TV and film production companies with props can broker deals for advertisers as they are not covered by OFCOM regulations - a loophole that is used to its full extent. So if you pay you can have a can of branded beer clearly visible in the Queen Vic (for around a thousand quid) or arrange for a regular cast member to be seen with a particular make of car all the time etc. The people who make X Factor were recently reprimanded for blurring out the phone used by Sharon Osborne during the early rounds of the programme as it was a different brand to the one that sponsor the show.

In Emmerdale i've seen Morrisons products bought in the shop! When Victoria and her friends were in there the other week, someone held up a bag of morrisons sweets and they'd blacked out the logo with a marker like they do on Ready Steady Cook, it looks pathetic!
