Can anyone help please? I've got a Philips dvdr 980.It was working ok but would't pick up TV signals.Thought I'd be clever and upgrade the firmware. It started installing ok but froze. Now all I'm getting is error AB F09116.I've tried resetting using stanby(poweroff/on) also Play /stop buttons but to no avail. It was playing dvds ok.How can I reset it without using a hammer.
PS I know this isn't Ebay but has anyone got a spare remote for this model or are there any universal ones that work.Tahnx Dave.

Try doing the firmware update again and make sure the disk has been created the proper way. Also make sure you give it plenty of time as it can take 10-15 minutes but should eventually come back to the normal display. Details are on the Philips site somewhere.

Downloaded the file again.Followed directions(iso 2 etc).I have to manually open the cd tray and insert the disk.I'm afraid it wont read the disk, keeps coming up with the error code. Why don't philips let the public know what these codes mean.?

Have a read through this page as it might give some workarounds or pointers.

I have also read that unplugging it for a while can sometimes reset it.

Had a quick look at the page and will read it more fully tomorrow.Already left it unplugged for 24hrs,no joy.Thanx for your help and patience so far.

Lifted the lid and turned it on.The small fan at the rear spins. The larger fan above the laser jerks a split second before the error code comes up.Then the small fan stops.Any ideas? Is there any way to reset the machine to original spec (like resetting the bios on a pc)? I can't reload any firmware as it stops before it has time to read the disc.
