has anyone noticed this.....

using new panasonic ram discs on three different machines, the picture quality drops in and out. i set the machines to 2hr quality, but the quality drops to 4hr and 6hr during any recording on any machine (dmr-e50 and 55). are these machines not compatible with new RAM discs? many packs tried!

Never had any problems or had any reported to us in the shop.
Obviously the machines are nly trying to record for less than 2 hours or has the timer been set for more than that?

Richie,

I beleive the problem you are having is due to a setting that you can change in the menus. I think it's called dynamic compression or something.

Sorry but I can not remember where exactly as I am working away form home.

Basically there is a setting on the Panny Ram recorders that alters the quality of a recording based on space left on the disc, so if you just press record as the disc gets closer to filling up, it alters the quality (higher compression obviously) to allow for more space on the disc.

Just set it to off. After this if the disc fills up it will just stop recording instead of lowering the quality to fit more on.

hope this helps.

I've known someone in the past who had the machine set to record in SP but then instead of just using the record button when required, was using the flexible record function which promptly reverted to 6hrs or whatever, giving the lowest quality possible!
