That hastened my mother's death, by the way (and it almost killed my cat, who was sleeping behind the door at the time!).

And I hold no truck with animal rights activists - whilst I applaud the motives (being against animal cruelty etc), I abhor their methods. And any animals they 'free' from captivity would die in the wild.

I do have two cats (from rescue sanctuaries). I lost my beloved 13 year old earlier this year. I support animal welfare charities (WWF, Cats protection, PDSA etc), but I do not agree with the terrorist methods employed by those who give animal welfare people a bad name.

And I wouldn't ignore any human suffering. Nor would I send death threats to anyone working in vivisection (even though I don't agree with it at all and refuse to buy cosmetics for that reason and don't buy French anything because the French have always insisted on testing on animals for everything).

Stating that people on here remind one of animal rights activists because they don't like cruelty to animals is a sweeping generalisation and an insulting one. Especially when you know nothing about the posters nor their background.

And giving a dog alcohol because you were lonely is not an excuse. In any world. (If Phina had said she'd done it because she was stupid, then I might have understood. Because she was - exceedingly stupid. However, she is a supposedly intelligent woman; therefore she has no excuse).”

God what a terrible thing to happen!

No I don't but, the fact that she was that drunk and that lonely induces sympathy from me.

[quote=ebjeebe]Are we really supposed to 'let go' any kind of behaviour if it's been done in the name of lonelyness? I'm not trying to cause a row here but I honestly cannot see how anyone can defend this behaviour.

Errr -- so what do you suggest we on DS do, call the animal rights campaigners to go and hound her..?? .this is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. One person says something and regrets it but it's remembered for an eternity...another person makes up stupid jokes about one legged nuns and chinese women with herpes and it's a joke.....LET IT GO!!

OK, I guess it's your choice who you give your sympathy to.

It was a good long while ago, jodenice (and Laura and ebjeebe). But thanks for your support. The fight with the insurance company over the door didn't help though, either! Needless to say I switched insurance companies once I finally got them to cough up (and we never proved anything either - as I say, it was what we suspected, just no witnesses and no proof and absolutely no other reason for it to happen!).

But I don't approve of the things activists do in the name of animals - it fudges the issues and turns people against those who are truly working for the animals without threatening to harm or actually harming human beings.

Unfortunately, Phina's terrible story (and regardless of how drunk or lonely I have ever been I have never considered feeding alcohol to my cats!) has opened up a can of worms.

I let things go when I see fit. Not when I'm TOLD by you!

I'm not suggesting we do anything. We were just discussing things. Is this not a forum?

I can't believe the stupid cow actually admitted to this! Shows how seriously she took her actions To tell it almost as a 'funny' story. I think she expected people to laugh.

Anything to beat her over the head. Go and look for all the animal abusers in this country. Join an animal charity and volunteer if you're so concerned. She's still managing to generate attention and she's evicted. Let's see how many posts she gets now.

Yep thats right one person tells a joke... and its mentioned over and over again .. another actually poisons her own dog and *some* people are outraged that its been mentioned on a thread by peopel who are sickened by her cruelty and then by the fact that in their concern they are compared to animal right protesters. Yawn indeed...

Oh yeah, I'm just scrapping around to find dirt on Phina.

Yep anything. Bitching, whinging, FEEDING YOUR OWN DOG ALCOHOL.

Shes only managing to generate attention by the Phina fans who are starting posts about how disgusted they are that poor defenceless Phina being picked on on TV and now its backfired cos poor defenceless Phinas dog is having its five minutes of fame. And I already am joined to an animal charity. Perhaps you should donate a pound.

I don't think she expected anyone to laugh. She wasn't laughing herself. They were supposed to tell a true story about themselves. I bet most of them had some truly awful tales they could tell, but said nothing because they are so aware of public perception, and damaging their chances of winning.

It was supposed to be a game. Last time I looked, playing a game meant having fun and making people laugh, not disturbing the other players.

No, Phina was trying to be deadpan and it back fired - because she over stepped the line of decency.

In my defence I'm not a big fan of the woman but, there are a few others I'd like to have seen go before her. However, I'm someone who doesn't like to see or hear of anyone suffering and because of that I felt sympathy for her. I have not condoned her actions towards her dog but, I feel I have a right to express sympathy for another human being if I so wish. Like others I own pets and wouldn't dream of doing anything like that to them, which is why I find it so sad that she had sunk so low that she did what she did.

I think it was obvious she shocked them with the comment. You could hear a pin drop after she said it.

Yes but, was it more because they had sympathy with the animal or, because they are more media savvy and realised that she'd just hung herself with the public? As someone has already posted I'm sure they all have skeletons in their closets but, none of them are going to reveal them on national TV.

NO! you are trying to CONTINUE your hatred of PHina by finding another stick to beat her with. She has left, the dog incident was ill-judged but she told the story anyway and you ARE trying to get other forum members to stir up a bigger hate campaign against her....and i am saying this as someone who thinks that Phina as issues too.....so yes....!!!

You could be right there, this country (well I thought most of them were until I came on here) is supposed to be a nation of dog lovers. I did pick up on a very awkward moment though.

Who knows. For me, it would have been horror. For the other celebrities it would have been the realisation that a) not only was she stupid enough to give her dog a drink and then have to get its stomach pumped but b) that she really was that dim that she'll admit on TV where it will be broadcast to a nation of animal lovers. (Well, some of us anyway).

Anyway, she's gone now. She bored me when she was in, she's boring me now and lets hope she fades to the obscurity she was in before she got in the bloody jungle. And leaves her pets alone.

With that, I'm off to pick up my dogs. And we won't be stopping at the pub.

have a lovely evening one and all.

Sorry to hear about your mum and I'm you on the animal activist issue.

On to Phina, whilst there is no excuse for what she did, she did it. It's done! What do we do now to make sure it's never repeated by anyone? For me, confessing to things I've done that were not so nice have made me actually feel better. Who knows how long ago this episode took place and how much she's struggled with her conscience for allowing herself do it? If at all she felt any guilt for what she did, I would imagine she now feels better having made this confession. Others may be uneasy about it but I doubt anyone can make her feel worse than she's done over time!

Yes, it was an awkward moment, and I think they were probably more shocked that she revealed this to the nation. They knew what the public response would be. The other contestants relevations were so 'nothing' that I can't remember them. Or were they not shown?
