I presume he wants to rip old vinyl onto the PC?

Can't vouch for the quality of the turntable but it's not the route I took. I suspect they aren't the best quality to be honest .....

I bought a half decent turntable and a pre-amp to connect it to the line-in on the line-in on my PC soundcard.

Does he already have a turntable?

Does the PC it will be connected to already have a soundcard with line-in?

If both are yes, I'd just get a pre-amp.

There is freeware software out there that will let you do the sound capture (Audacity) and I've yet to hear of a 'clean up' program that will not adversely affect the quality of the resulting MP3.

How much are you looking at paying for it?
