New TV advice
rmc6200

Good morning I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice?

I'm going to get a new tv soon. I'm going to go for an LCD.

I have ntl cable tv at present. From what I understand I need to get an HD ready one (HDMI socket?) for when the tvdrive with its (very few) HD channels launches in my area; is this correct?

Secondly, I presume because I have ntl cable it is irrelevant whether the tv I go for has analogue reception or integrated freeview as I get my tv from cable anyway?

Many thanks for anyone who can help.

Anyone who is having to buy a television now really should buy one that is HD Ready, even if they don't intend getting an HD source (TV Drive or Sky HD) on the near future - then years down the line when HD is much more commonplace, all that has to be done is to plug the relvant box in.

Look for the HD Ready logo, and avoid TV's that have 'HD Compatible' instead as these are not HD (they will show a picture from an HD box, but only in standard definition, thus making the HD box pointless).

Having a Freeview Tuner built in is also a good idea, simply for the sake of something to fall back on - the analogue switch off starts in 2008 (not that far away when you think about it), and if your cable/sky box went faulty after the switch off, what would you watch?

Obviously the size of screen that you want and budget will play a part in your decision, but if it gives you a starting point I'd suggest looking at the likes of Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba and Samsung - they gennerally seem to be about the best around just now. I finally plumped for a Toshiba 37WLT66 a few months back, and I am totally delighted with it. It has a decent array of connections, gives excellent pictures, and even the sound is good.

Good Luck
