Scart switch scrambles DVD/VCR signal – why?

I’ve got something odd going on with my Samsung DVD-V5600U when it’s connected to a scart switch box. I’m hoping someone can help!

The V5600U is a DVD/VCR combo (also plays DivX etc). When in DVD mode it outputs in RGB and when in VCR mode it outputs in composite (via the same scart). When plugged directly into the RGB enabled scart on the back of my TV everything works great.

But, when a scart switch is put between the player and TV, the VCR output mode gets all messed up (DVD mode is still fine). I don’t understand why but the VCR output shows onscreen with the DVD output overlayed! So when watching or recording a tape you can see “Samsung… No Disc…” over the top!

I’m guessing that the V5600U has some sort of arrangement were the DVD output isn’t actually cut when in VCR mode but, because the VCR outputs in composite and not RGB, the signals shouldn’t clash ? But the switch box gets confused and overlays the two signals ?

When plugged directly into the TV this doesn’t happen. And if I plug the switch into one of the non-RGB scarts on the TV, this problem goes away! But then I can’t view DVDs in crisp RGB.

Am I just buying the wrong type of scart switches? I’ve tried 2 different makes so far and the same thing happens (they were both manual switch boxes). I’ve got several devices that I want connected to the one RGB scart on the TV, hence the need for the scart switch but they're not connected yet - still trying to get the V5600U to work.

Many thanks for your help (please don’t hold my lack of posts against me)!

Can you daisy-chain your devices instead of using a switch ?

Unfortunately not because not all the devices take a RGB signal to pass through to the TV.

But I've found a sort of solution to this problem. I've found a scart switch has a RGB on/off switch. If in the off mode the VCR signal behaves itself!

Not brilliant because that puts all the other devices into composite if I want record and, for example, play on the XBox.

Cheers.

Does your combi-box have RCA outputs ? Could you use those for viewing video and the scart for viewing dvd ? You could use an RCA to scart adapter and plug it into a spare scart on the switch or tv, if that makes it easier.
