DMR-E85H repair
leons
01-12-2006
Does anyone know who can carry out repairs to my DMR-E85H.

It has been slowly giving up for the past few months,,now dead.

It is almost certainly the dreaded PSU failure.

Panny are quoting an horrendous ammount.

I paid £500 2 yrs ago, and do not want to pay almost half that now for a repair

I have started having probs with mine this week.

EVERYTHING all by 2 that was recorded on HDD is now playing back with horrendous distortion, but writes to dvd fine.

I have formatted HDD and tried to record again, but still distortion.

Is this the problem you've been experiencing?

Can anyone advise me, please?

TIA

Parts required and the details of the repair can be found in this thread.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, but after reading all 11 pages, no one is having the same problems as me.

I have formatted, returned to factory settings and set factory defaults.

It is unplugged right now, and staying like that for a while.

Has anyone had "Self Check...Self Check" appearing on the display, ad infinitum?

I've had it appear, when trying to play an ordinary dvd. The machine still plays back its own hard-disc recordings, but I gather that it's only a matter of time before that goes too.

I too am disgruntled at such an expensive machine breaking down so soon. I hardly used the bloody thing!

Yes, Just replaced the regulator on mine and added some extra heat sinking. You only have 1/4 of an inch between the top of the heat sink and the bottom of the HDD carrier but adding a piece of aluminium sheet to soak away any excess heat may mean you only have to replace it once.
