Hello,
okay so i got a new nen nano less than a month ago, i have kept it in a silacon(sp?) case and then a couple of times in a leather one. The other day i noticed some very small bumps right at the top of the scroll wheel, it is not muck or anything, and cannot think how it has happened, anyway i am not happy, others have lasted longer, even the old one lasting for over a year and perfect cond.
got it from pc world(i know!) will they change it for me?

there must be some dirt underneath the membrane. i'd go back to pcw & tell them you're having intermittant problems with it & get them to change it. or post here to get some other help. it's a very good source of info btw.

Looks like dirt. They won't swap it because of that.

no have not got it wet, and it is not dirt, might have ago at taking it back today, it really stands out to me. Shall i take all my music off of it? and if they do change it... can i just copy all the music folder in my ipod(in explorer mode) and put it back on the new one?

It almost looks burnt, or rusty

Hope you get it sorted anyway, OP.

It does look to me as if it is scorched somehow. Has it been near a lighter or match or maybe someones cigarette?

Another possibility is that it may be as a result of 'sweating' with it being kept in a case in a moist (humid) environment.

not without 3rd party software, nope. why do you need to copy it back to your pc? did you delete all the tunes after you put them onto your ipod

there's a utility that will allow you to copy it from your ipod back to your pc, i can't remember what it's called, but if you post on the apple site i linked to earlier, someone's sure to linkify you to it

edit: it's called Yamipod

no it hasnt been near no lighters or cigs. And i think that the case it is stored in gets plenty of air. All my music is from different pc's i dont have them all stored on my harddrive, what i did is copy all the music folder and then used tag and rename software and it did it in seconds. The whole process for 175 songs took 11mins

If that's the way the OP's mind works, I think this other "unknown" damage might come into question
