Blackberry and Virgin sim

Hi, can anyone help this novice, please?

Is it possible to set up an unlocked Blackberry 7130v to give internet access via a Virgin PAYG sim?

It works fine as a phone, but also says "Data connection refused" I don't need email, but would like to browse.

I spoke to Virgin who said that they don't have settings for a Blackberry, and advised me to try the Blackberry website. I've had a look, but cannot see anything that might help. Can anyone help? You may guess from the question that I don't really understansd this stuff, so if anyone can help, please take pity on me and answer as if you're explaining things to an idiot, because that is what you will be doing. Thanks.

You could tyr calling back and asking for them to update the "apn" but this will result in a tariff change. So it's still safer to say no i'm afraid.
On the whole, the rule seems to be that if you have any networks PREPAY service, you cannot use the full functionality of a BB. It would be too expensive for you to start with...

The Blackberry equivalent to regular mobile phone APNs are "service books" - to display the ones installed on your Blackberry it's usually "options" / "advanced" / "service books" on the handheld.

I'd expect there to be two browsers - a WAP one and a regular one, and there to be a service book for each, and I'm guessing that the Gateway IP address for each would be on T-Mobile's network (which Virgin use in the UK).

However, if Virgin's people don't know anything about it, the chances are that it isn't going to fly, and their SIM won't let you get that far.

The normal way that it works (in the UK) is that you pay an amount per month for a "Blackberry Service charge" and then get data access from the Blackberry for free. There are basically two sorts of Blackberry service that you can get - "Enterprise" (where it connects to a service at your office, e.g. for email) and "Internet", where it doesn't. You can also get both on the same device, if the SIM is set up that way. Where did you get the Blackberry from? It's possible that it still has settings from the previous owner's Enterprise Blackberry server.

No unfortunately its impossible. The way that the Blackberry network works is not the same as a normal mobile when it comes to data.

I've never understood why people buy Blackberry phones when there are far better devices out there, unless you are a corporate after a resilient email device.

Stick it on ebay and get something usable, they do sell quite well....
