Best Functionality / Best Value GPS System

Hey all,

I am a BT telecoms engineer and my job involves a fair amount of driving, the problem is I have only been driving a couple of mounths and haven't the faintest idea as to what roads go where or even where certain towns / citys are.

My question is what GPS system would you recomend and why? Idealy it needs to be under £300 and portable so I can remove it from my BT van and use in my own car, also installation must be by means of non-permanent fixtures as I am not allowed to make any modyfications to my van (more so after driving into a wall)

Any help would be greatfully, Thanks Gav

If basic functionality is what you want, get the TOM TOM ONE or the Navman F20.

If you can stretch to the Navman N40 then i can highly recommend one. My partner has one and it has never failed to get her home [complained to navman about that].

I have the MIO C710 MioMap V3". It has the following features and is so reliable and accurate.

3.5in anti glare colour screen navigation system with Bluetooth™ will play MP3s, show your photos and navigate you around Europe and the UK.

2Gb NAND flash memory. Exchange rate calculator. In-built traffic information FM receiver.

Pack includes; carry-case, earphones, bicycle holder, windscreen mount. UK and Ireland maps, plus pre-installed major roads of Europe. Speed camera warning, update free for first year from initial registration. Hands-free calling combination with a Bluetooth enabled phone.

Nothing else to buy. The complete solution.

Hi Gav,
I too am a BT Telecomms engineer, and I use a TomTom ( albeit a TomTom Go910).
I would suggest you use a TomTom or a Garmin unit, as on the BT Intranet, you can find both TomTom OV2 and Bitmap files, and Garmin files for all the Exchange locations, using the Openreach Exchange locator website.
