Channel changes automatically

I have been on the internet and the Thomson DHD4000 has been on in the background, tuned to BBC4.

Suddenly I'm aware that the channel has changed: to Sky Sports News! - Never watch the channel!

No buttons were pressed, or timers set, etc.

Calling up the EPG and Now/next reveals it is still tuned to BBC4 (only one tuner appears green on EPG, the other is not shown: I take that to mean that both are tuned to BBC4).

How the devil did that happen?

Pressing "9" didn't change anything: had to go up a channel, to "10" (ITV3), then back down again. That seemed to fix it.

Any ideas, anyone?

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago whilst watching Planet Earth on BBC One.

Towards the end of the programme, the sound and picture began to break up, I received a 'NO SIGNAL' message on screen, and then it switched to ITV4, but the box still seemed to think it was showing BBC One according to the now/next banner.

Even switching to another channel and back again didn't sort it - I was still getting ITV4 on LCN 1.

In the end I had to switch to stand-by and back on again to sort it out.

It would seem that a corruption of the datastream causes this. Surely there are safeguards in the software to prevent this happening.

I wonder if the same effect can be achieved when recording a channel. Would the recording show a sudden change of channel?

I had actually set Planet Earth to record on the night concerned, and yes, it did record the picture break-up and then ITV4.

Similarly rewinding and watching in chase play at the time repeated the event. Returning to live returned to ITV4 on LCN1.
