Dirty Disk

I have been having a few problems with my Sony RDR HXD860 over the weekend.
It started with a noisy HDD, which then came up with a HDD Error. I turned the Machine off/on but the noises continued.
Then I got a D13 Errror and a Dirty disk error, again needing a restart.
Looks like the HDD has gone pear shaped.
I was just wondering if many other people have had this problem, I can only see one other reference to this.
I will have to go for a replacement machine. Shame because I really like the 860.

Get the 860's HD swapped out...

They're not guaranteed to be fautless. Just bad luck I suppose.

I got in contact with the shop they said to do a reset on the box, and bring it back if I got no joy. I did the reset and format and it seems to have worked (on the second attempt), I have lost 1GB of disk space so it has maybe marked the bad sectors.
The box is now behaving perfectly again, I will keep an eye on it and see what happens.
The shop is down in London and I really didn't want to take it back for a £40 disk drive.
I have heard that people have swapped disk drives so I assume if it does go after the warranty is up, I can change it easily.

I don't think that a disk swap is an easy task. I seem to recall reading something somewhere that the disk is specially formatted using a special maintenance menu/remote, so although a physical swap might be easy, there's no guarantee that anything will work. Might you, that may have been something to do with Panasonic kit.

I suggest that straight after the Christmas/New Year break that you get the box swapped-out. Loosing ~1GB of disk space sounds like a disk that's pretty iffy and I certainly wouldn't rely on it. When you take the box back, make sure that the shop has a brand new replacement waiting for you.

FWIW I'm new to the RDR-HXD860, and messing around with both HDD and DVD functions I get the Dirty Disk error message quite frequently.

Appears to be mainly when I'm trying to make it do things which it can't.
