Sinbad’s heading for Corrie!
The folk of Weatherfield won’t know what’s hit them when former Brookside star Mickey Starke rolls into town. The rotund actor, who played big-hearted window cleaner Sinbad for nearly two decades, has signed a £95,000-a-year deal to play the head of an evil new family.

Mickey will arrive in Weatherfield early next year - bringing five wild children and a troublesome grandad with him. TV insiders say the clan, who move into Tracy Barlow’s old home, will be the worst-ever family to set foot on the famous cobbles.

“Let’s just say Corrie fans won’t have seen anything like it,” a source told the Daily Star on Sunday. “This family will be absolutely awful and a huge shock to everyone on the Street. The kids will be the type who are always causing trouble and arguing. Mickey’s character is their single dad - but he’ll be just as much trouble as his unruly kids.” Hmmm... it sounds as if Mickey is intent on putting the sin and the bad into Coronation Street!

I love the sound of this family. Might be what Corrie needs right now.

Does this mean they'll all be Scousers?

5 kids sounds a bit over-the-top, unless some of them are adults.

I hope they won't be scousers, yet more type-casting that all people from the 'pool have ASBO's.

I'd do a sad smilie but its not working

Well if they are scousers it ties in with all incomers being bad

People from Yorkshire are bad, pesky cheeky cockneys are bad. Darn these evil offcumdens

It's getting like "The League of Gentlemen"'s Royston Vasey

"Are you local?"

I looked him up on IMDB and it does indeed say he is in The Royal '2003-2006'. His last episode was dated April 2006. As I haven't watched for ages, dunno if that was when it was filmed or when it was shown! If it was filmed then, it won't be on til next year, cos they're always shown long after they're made!

Next series on screen, then, next year, probably. Is Jill still pregnant? Cos as was commented on a thread, she had her baby daughter in real life last November so she's a year old now, yet Jill was still not that far advanced in pregnancy in The Royal!

I did find a guide that said the last episode of a series ended with Jill going into labour and the first episode of new series she gives birth. On the IMDB that is listed as March 2006. Ken's last episode seems to be 'Letting Go' dated April 2006.

You can get very confused with Royal scheduling!

He definately in series 6, I saw him filming! As the Royal has breaks between filming of series, it is possible a character will just not appear again in a new series, and will be exited in a passing comment, shame! Great he'll be in Corrie though!

sounds like EE's introduction of the Slaters, but the characters are louder - if they are successful as the Slaters, then Corrie shud have a great 2007

Isn't he playing Barmy Becky's father? I remember reading a while back that her uncouth ASBO family are moving into the Street - so is this the new family of hers?

They were originally intended to be Becky's family, but that idea got scrapped due to Craig Charles' suspension messing up their filming schedule.

Hey GingerMac, it doesn't matter how many bedrooms there are. In soapland a family of 94 can easily fit into a two-up, two-down terrace and only three of them are ever in the living room.

I agree. I hate this stereotyping. Hope they don't have perms and say, "calm down" all the time. My mum was from Liverpool and was really posh. Liverpool has such a lot to offer yet the media clings to the same old types.
