Surround Sound

Probably a silly question but here goes. I want to connect my Panasonic sattelite speakers to my new Samsung LE32R73BD telly to improve the sound but when I connect them to the audio out sockets they dont work. (dont like the TruSurround XT, not a patch on the Panasonic). Any ideas onthis one?, dont fancy spending another 2-300pounds on Samsung's surround sound system. Any help would be appreciated, many thanks, Dave.

Is there a setting on the TV to select that output as your sound source?

You are most likely connecting passive speakers to a line-level output.
In that case, to be able to use those speakers you will need to connect them via an amplifier.

What were the speakers originally attached to? ..............a Dolby surround system or TV?? If so, as Pingu says, these would have been driven by an amplifier. If it was a surround system.....cant this still be used in conjunction with your new TV?

Thanks for the replies.
No way to select the output required on new tv, cannot access the main audio menu (greyed out). Previous tv was a Panasonic with built-in surround sound capability. It had 2 speakers built-in to the cabinet along with a centre speaker as part of the diplay stand. The 2 satellite speakers came with the tv and were connected to their own dedicated sockets, which possibly were driven by the internal amp. Will try some other options including connecting to my new Samsung VCR/DVD player or even my Sky+HD box. If these dont work I will have to bite the bullet and buy a Samsung s/s system.
Once again thanks for the replies, Dave.

No need to limit yourself to a Samsung surround unit. They all work together.

Something like this Sony one from Richer Sounds would do the job http://www.richersounds.co.uk/showpr...=SONY-STRDE400 (sorry, having trouble posting a neat hyperlink!!).
