What can be done with Ken Barlow?
What with Tracey off - what's left for Ken (even Deirdre). They cannot be content with nagging from Blanche as a storyline.
I had high hopes with Deirdre being blackmailed by that man after planning permission (sounds thrilling lol!!) Suggested storylines Deirdre - Yet another affair??? Daniel Osbourne to return after the death of Denise? Joanna Lumley to return as Elaine Perkins...she wants Ken back to cause problems for Deirdre. Deirdre to get threatened by Samir's family who blame her...a hostage situation? Deirdre to lose her job and her and Ken hit by financial worries and may lose No.1 |

I don't know what they can do with him to be honest. I'd like to see Ken back at the supermarket with Reg Holdsworth returning to manage it, would be great with him and Ken there.

Soaps seem to lack characters doing 'normal' stuff.
If Ken is anything like my dad, he'd be into something. My dad loves his genealogy and drives us all mad with all the stuff he has discovered about the family. Of course, in soapie style, Ken could be doing this for a while, then discover something 'in the families past' that 'changes everything'. |

A secret sister they gave up for adoption. That would be good....I have her played by a favourite actress of mine - Sabina Franklyn

I think Ken is going to be heavily involved in the current Tracey/Charlie story.

How about Ken renting/buying the bakery site, and running a hardware shop from it. Nice and boring for someone like him, with the opportunity for adam to actually do some work!

Ken realises he should have been a woman years ago, puts on a dress and wig, and still lives happily ever after with Deidre through the hormones treatment.

Noticing how Ken's 'Plank School of Acting' symptoms are accelerating, and mindful of the part these played in Tracey's untimely departure, his concerned relatives rush him to hospital where he's given emergency treatment for woodworm.

Too true... you know, he's so wooden, they put varnish on him rather than make-up

Ken is brilliant.
I would like to see more exploration of his character - he has been around for 46 years, we have followed his life. I want to know what goes on inside Ken's mind - what happened to the socially aware young lad of the 1960s? There is SO MUCH that he has to offer Coronation Street...I couldn't put it into words! |

I suppose a real shocker would be if he was late taking his library books back
Seriously, what DOES he do in the library (apart from avoiding Blanche)?I think an earlier suggestion of Daniel turning up would be good, especially if he compared favourably to Adam (i.e really studious and the type of lad Ken always wanted). He could become a teacher at Weatherfield comp or something and then fall for someone Ken thinks is really unsuitable on the Street (Fizz? Kelly?). Last edited by Tizzy : 05-12-2006 at 08:08. |

Perhaps it's because I've missed out on his best days, but I find Ken to be nothing but a bore. I've tried to look for all these hidden depths that he supposedly has, but I can't see them.

Seriously, what DOES he do in the library (apart from avoiding Blanche)?I have often wondered exactly WHAT is does in the library??? He must go there like every day???? I agree he needs a new gritty storyline to get into....he has been a bit dull lately but is a great actor and can do with something to get his teeth into - like it was said earlier, maybe he will shine in the Tracey/Charlie saga..... |
