Despite the manual that comes with the TDVDX3801 implying that the firmware is upgradeable, it apparently isn't - I contacted Akura - the manufacturers and was given the following reply-

[i]Due to a mis understanding with the supplier/manufacturer, there are no upgrades available for this model. I hope it does not cause you inconvenience. The MP4/Divx codec is embedded in the processor chip and cannot be upgraded with firmware changes.[/I]

I don't care about the firmware, I just want my DVD player fixed. I don't see why I should have to schlep about looking for yet another cheap DVD player, when this one has a 3 Year Warranty!
