am thinking about buying a dvd recorder, but cannot deceide which type i would need. I have a Samsung LE32N73BD integrated Digital TV but sometimes have problems recording from the inbuilt freeview using my sons dvd recorder - have to leave the tv on to record whats on the screen etc - is anyone else having this problem??

Also, with the DVD recorders with freeview, can you record with the tv off as long as the correct channel is set?

Any help would be great

Thanks!

Hi, I found this on another forum - hope it helps

"Hi , i also have a tv with intergrated digital tv ,if you want to record off the digital side of the tv the tv has to be switched on ,if you make a timer recording say for instance if you are out ,then you have to set the timer on the tv,because on the digital side of the tv the picture are produced in the box inside the tv as apposed to analogue were the the picture is beamed to youre set from outside (or at least that is what i am lead to believe,if i record off the digital side i have to use av1 (as someone has already said),if i am recording a digital prog. then i can not whatch another digital channel and have to whatch in analogue(because recorder only has one reciever)
if you set youre timer record function in the digital prog guide on the tv for when you are out i think the tv may switch itsef on if they are linked via quicklink or similar system.
You may also have to tell the tv inthe set up which scart lead is digital and which one goes to the recorder, had to tell mine that the scart one was to the recorder and to send didital down scart one, hope this makes a bit of sense and is usefull ,it took me 2 days to get mine to work right VERY FRUSTRATING"
