Hi,

I am not sure what the answer is so i have posted here on the web forum my problem,
I hope someone will be able to help me, thanks…

I found out that some of the new DVD players output 1080p. Great news.
More and more new Plasma screens like the new Pioneer will allow 1080p 24fps to play. Great news too.

The problem is some HDMI cables which are 5 meters long or longer will not
allow 1080p to work. Denon.co.uk has advised me that before buying a HDMI cable which are 5 meters or longer. It should be check and confirmed that the HDMI cable is 1080p compatible, as some will not allow the full bandwidth to work.

Has anyone else had this problem or concern and is it true.

My research:
I have so far contacted Denon who have confirm this to be true.
I have emailed Pioneer and QED and awaiting a reply back.

Yes it is true.

Over 5m and 1080p then it is probably wise to invest in a more expensive HDMI cable that is designed and guaranteed for that task.

Doesn't mean it has to cost a fortune, but don't expect a £10.99 cable to be up to the job. It might be, but just don't expect it to, or expect any guarantee from the seller/manufacturer that it will.

For information Ixos do a range of HDMI cable lengths (XHT458) that are 1080p certified.

And QED Qunex HDMI cables claim to support 1080p up to the 7m length

Thanks for the feedback.

I too have found out that Ixos will work with HDMI 1080p which is good news all round.

I have not received any emails back from QED.

To be honest, i was very surprised to find out that HDMI cables might have problems with 1080p over 5 meter lengths, considering the benefits HDMI cables offer. I have invested in 2 QED HDMI 5 meter cables. QED purple HDMI cable won most awards and the new silver cable is listed as the top HDMI.

I have yet to test the Silver QED HDMI cable, which i will be doing over the weekend.

Thanks both the comments.

At 5m and below there's no difference between a QED cable and a £3.99 ebuyer one.

It is only at longer lengths that a more expensive cable is more likely to be required. It is common to see folks say >5m, but that doesn't mean a £10.99 cable wont work as I said, just that you cannot guarantee it till you try it. Other say the problems occur at >8m, or whatever... there's not really any hard length you can say cheap cables won't work - it varies.

Thank you for the feedback.

The question about cheap or expensive cables is not what I am asking, nor interested in.

I was not aware until recently that 1080p and some long length HDMI cables could have problems.

But thanks for the reply.

You will probably notice that the longer HDMI cables have tiny circuit board built into the connectors to balance impedance and there are also HDMI repeater devices available which claim you can have a run of up to 60ft for 1080p.

Thank you for the reply and feedback.

I manage to solve my problem .

My screen and DVD was the problem in the end and not the cable.

My DVD player which is listed to play standard DVD in 1080p was my problem.

The DVD only offers 1080p in 25fps or 1080p in 30fps and not in 1080p 24fps.

Thanks again......
