DVi connection & sound

On my LG 27" LCD, I have DVi as input 1, Scart as inputs 2 & 3, S-Video as input 4 & component video as connection 5.

For sound, a red/white 'phono-connector' sound input is available alongside the s-video & Component connectors, but no sound input is adjacent to the DVi connector ( except a 'PC speaker' jack ).

I presume this means that even though I can use an HDMi - DVi cable to input Sky HD pictures to the TV, there would be no sound unless I use the Component connection allied to the 'phono stereo' plugs ?

I think its right to say that only HDMi carries sound as well as picture, so basically if you only have DVi on your TV, you cant ever use a pure digital signal for picture as well as sound ?

I was hoping that the 'not bad' standard picture quality would be enhanced by using a digital cable, but I think this now means I can only make any difference by getting a decent Component lead rather than the 'egg & chips' one that came with an old DVD player.

Anyone had similar issues ?

I'd imagine the red/white connectors could be used with the DVI input too.

I'd agree with Gyles. Even if you don't have a DVI cable at the moment, connect the phono leads up and select the DVI input ... hopefully you should get sound but no picture. (BUT some TVs won't allow to select a channel if there isn;t an input already)

What does the manual say?

Not been able to find anything in the manual, but I will perform the test you suggest.

Cheers & sorry for being too dim to think of that for myself

What's the model number of the LG LVD TV? I'm have a suspicion that the DVI connection is not HDCP enabled and is therefore not HD Ready.
