Am i the only one to be seaching for a DVD recorder that is easy to use.For example a combi that also will record another program whilst watching another,or will record while the TVis switch off.It will have to be like the VCR where you just put in a disc and set the time and away you go.No fancy gadgets just a simple machine to use(for a 70 year old). The price does not matter to a certain extent(No i have not won the lottery) Thanks Lagger

Pretty much every DVD recorder will let you record one channel while watching another (same as video recorders), because you record from the tuner in the DVD recorder while you watch from the tuner in your TV, all will record while the TV is switched off (unless of course you want to record from Freeview and your Freeview is built into your TV), and most support Videoplus which was the video community's attempt to make recording as easy as possible.

...however, I suspect that doesn't answer all of your questions. Do you mean record to DVD whilst watching a DVD (DVD-RAM recorders support this technique, but there aren't many DVD-RAM recorders on the market)? Do you mean record from Sky or record from Freeview whilst watching another Sky channel or Freeview channel - unfortunately that can't be done, but that isn't the fault of any DVD recorder, that's the fault of the digital TV box not having the ability to output two separate signals to two different scart connectors. Many Freeview boxes and Sky+ can now take two separate inputs, recording one to hard disk while you view another, but I don't know of any that will output different channels to two separate outputs.

Hi Do you specifically want a DVD recorder or do you basically want a recorder. Unless you have a particular reason for wanting a DVDR like removable disks I would not rule out a Hard Drive Recorder.

Actually easier to use than a DVDr in most respects; no looking for disks or worries about disk compatibility.
My Mother who is a lot older than you and does not even know what a hard disk is uses one and finds it a lot easier than her VCR which she has stopped using.

They all work in a similar way up to a point; e.g. no need to set timers just bring up onscreen guide; select a programme and press record.

With any of the twin tuner models (which is all the current ones I think) you can watch one live channel while recording another. With many of them you can have overlapping (simultanous dual) recording while watching another recording. In fact you may not even notice you are setting two recordings at the same time.

No hunting for the tape/disk any more; just press button for onscreen library and click on name of whatever recording you want to watch.

I could go on; Oh sorry I already have.

The Humax 9200 and the new Daewo seem to be most favoured currently. I have a Topfield (2 actually) but I am not recomending them only because they may be a bit more complicated to get full benefit; no other reason.

Hi there thanks for your reply about recorders. The reason i am asking about DVD recorders is because we go digitial in 2008.I record a lot of golf at the moment with my VCR and i have stacks of tapes,so tranferring them should be easy enough with a comi.I like the idea of a hard drive to a certain extent but i will have to transfer to disc because i want a permanent record of all golf, and i record and some flms. The hard drive will soon fill up and it means transferring to disc.Recording straight on to disc would solve the promlem. Please excuse my illiteracy but i seem to read in a lot of forums of problems with DVD.Like i said in my earlier message i want something simple to use.Just bang in the disc set the time and away we go.(hopefully) Thanks again Lagger
