Sad Corrie Spoilers
Well we all know that Violet is pregnant with Jamies child, but what I didn't know was that it is an ectopic pregnancy and she may not be able to have any children. I think having a baby would have given Violet more of a focus in the show as all she seems to do is serve behind the bar but at least it is a storyline for her. From Tiscali: Quote:
Violet complains of a pain in her shoulder, which she puts down to sleeping awkwardly, but when she then collapses after leaving the Rovers early, it's clear her condition is something much more serious. The barmaid is rushed to hospital, where it's revealed she's suffered an ectopic pregnancy. Following an operation, Violet must then face up to the devastating news that not only has she lost her baby, she may not be able to have any more

It's nice for her to get a storyline, but why can't Soaps just let people have a normal pregnancy?

There are too many kids in Corrie as it is. So in that respect I'm glad there won't be another.

I thought there was something somewhere, although I can't remember where, about her and Sean deciding to bring the baby up together?

I can't believe that so many people would settle for Violet being lumbered with a child as bringing 'another dimension to the character' or making her 'more of a focus'.
The staple diet of a Coronation Street script writer is SEX, BABIES and DEATH. Can we not see something a bit different? Like everyone else, I want to see more of Violet and see the character developed - but is this really the way to go about it? I am glad that her pregnancy is ectopic. THAT brings a new dimension to the character...not having her pushing a pram around talking about knitting patterns with Claire for 10 years (or until Jenny Platt gets bored of aforementioned scenes). |

So it's a pleasant surprise they are doing this with it, making it a lot more entertaining. Why do they never have stories of young women 'bettering themselves' in Corrie? I seem to recall Ken saying once in Vi's early days something to the effect that Vi was one of his most intelligent pupils and was worth a lot more than working behind a bar. But I suppose they mapped out Vi's path a bit by giving her a man like Jason, someone with limited brain power, so they couldn't make her look more intelligent than him, which she obviously is. Suppose it was inevitable that would lead to the usual up the duff storyline, but at least this is short lived and more interesting, so there's hope for Vi yet ... I hope!

I hoped she'd been able to have the baby, after the Karen/Steve/Tracey Saga 'last' christmas, or whenever it was...
and just to see the look on Frankie the slapper's face, when she realises she is just too old to give Jamie what he wants... his own family.. but that's just me.. lol lol lol Merry Christmas |

Never mind - all soaps have one female character who gets pregnant, suffers a horror miscarriage/ectopic and is told she will never have children, only to miraculously conceive months later when they're short of plot ideas.
