Probably one from the Denon range such as the DVD-A1XVA which retails around £2500. You really need to specify a price point

I would have to say the Lexicon RT20, only because I own one.
Retails at around £3.5k, As Jarrak has pointed out, you really need to specify a budget. Personally I wouldn't touch the cheap upscalers, those under £200 anyway. If you are wanting to spend a little more then I would forget the upscalers and go for the real thing. HD DVD players can be had for just over £300. |

The Arcam DV139, priced £1800, could be worth a look.

Considering the high cost of the upscaling DVD players at the top end (£3.5k) I would have thought that it might be better using a standard DVD player with a seperate video processor such as VP50 or Lumagen which will work with Sky (SD) and Freeview. Also for the cost of the expensive upscaling DVD players you can get Sky HD + an HD-DVD player + a lot of HD-DVDs which will give a far better picture.
If you were looking for the cheaper end then the answer is probably not to bother unless you were going to buy a new player anyway. The DVD player may or may not do better upscaling than your TV. |

Ok so you want a price range--- Lets say between £50 to £130 the reason I ask is I keep hearing about certain chip sets that are better than others..!! if this is the case how would I go about finding out which chip set is inside my samsung R40 ...?

I bought a Philips dvp 5960 the other day. I've only used it once so i won't comment on quality yet. But i have a connection problem. When you use a hdmi cable the digital coax output is downmixed so you lose 5:1 sound. this is not good for me.

Typical Philips 'quality'.
I've got a Samsung DVD-HD860 (£60) and it's multi-regional via remote control. PQ is stunning! |
