If my memory serves me correctly aren't the attics on Cornonation Street open plan. I remember a fews years ago Ken Barlow going up in his and walking through the other houses and falling through the ceiling in the Battersbys on top of Leanne and Nick who were in bed? So how come now Les is converting his into a room for Chesney?

The walls have just appeared out of nowhere for the purpose of this storyline. It's a soap of course.

Lmao I remember that storyline with Ken. Something also springs to mind with Les, Emily's attic, and a spoon for some reason??

At one point Les was getting into Emilys house via the 'open plan' attic, he was sneaking in to watch her tele!
How come he didn't discover the stuff up there I wonder.

How small is it please?

It looks like just one small room, certainly not enough to cover the whole of the house, unless there is a part that we have not yet seen.

I also remember Les walking through to Kens house and drinking his alcohol.

A lot of Victorian and post- Victorian terraces were built with walk through attics but fire risk and, more recently, security has meant that dividing walls have had to be installed. It's probably not been shown as a story line but getting a mortgage on a house with an open loft space would be impossible.

The length of the attic is the same as the width of the house. In this case it does seem to be a lot bigger

When will the idiot realise that it's a council house or will he just give up

More to the point. When will they get down to B & Q for a few rolls of wallpaper and some paint to re-do the downstairs.

It was a pretty big part of previous storylines too. Seems odd that they'd change it.

Never mind Cilla's skin cancer, I am surprised they don't all have breathing problems with all that damp running down the walls

Its no wonder that Chesney wants to live in the attic. It must be like a breath of fresh air up there - he he!!

I dont think it's actual damp its just stains from when the hot tub came crashing through the ceiling.

The Battersby-Brown's house was and as far as I know still is owned by the council. Remember that silly storyline that Les and Kirk were a same sex couple so they could stay there but Jannis spoiled it? The council have such stringent regulations they would have put walls up before being able to house the Battersby's there.

What is fascinating me is that when Chesney, Sophie or anybody else up in the loft stand with a single lightbulb behind them their faces and everything in front of them are illuminated. Having light shine round objects and cause no shadows is definitely magic!

Wendi Peters (Cilla) was on Countdown this week, and she did say that the Battersby house is going to get a makeover in the New Year

It's not actually, I bought my house last year and they didn't seem bothered about the loft, they expect it of old terraced houses

I believe any loft conversion needs planning permission and in their case if it is rented also permission from the landlord
Who would insist on the work being done professionally,
So i cant see Les paying out for that,

Or is this once again Corrie conveniently forgetting about the building rules& regs?

Not forgetting anything with regard to rules and regs - this is Les Battersby! The last thing he would think of would be to get planning persmission or even tell the council about what he is planning. Typical Les.

Anyway, this is just a device for...

Spoiler

Technically yes, it would need both planning permission and permission from the council. It's hardly out of character for Les to either have no idea about planning permission or to be deliberately ignoring it though.
