Help with Archos 604
I would appreciate help with the following points
1. I am unable to view JPEG images stored on my Archos 604 when the device is connected to my computer using the USB cable. When attempting to open an image the following message appears on the computer screen whether the USB connection is enabled in Hard Drive mode or in Windows Media Device mode : " Files cannot be opened directly from the device. Please copy the files to a local folder and open a copy." Surely it must be possible to view image files directly on the computer screen without first creating copies, the manual states the Archos can be used as an additional hard drive? 2. When connecting the Archos 604 to the computer the following option appears on the computer screen: "Synchronize media files to this device using Windows Media Player." Why should I do this, is it a once and for all option? Great device but the instruction manual leaves many unanswered questions for novice owners like me. Thanks heavens for forums like this. |

2. (I had the AV500 but I'm assuming it's more or less the same) If you go into the settings menu there will be the option of both Hard Drive or Windows Device. You can flick between the two depending on how you want to download content to the player. Hard Drive means you basically drag and drop everything through Windows Explorer; Windows Device means you download music and videos through WMP10/11. You can chop and change between each.
If you have DRM material you'll have to use the Windows Media option to get the PlaysForSure thing. |

If you mean to view the pictures in something like Windows Picture Viewer off the drive, then I would suggest putting the player into its Hard Drive mode and trying it like that. I can't see a reason why that shouldn't work.

As you say, it works just like another hard drive can even reorganize folders through the viewing software which is less tedious using the Archos software. Many thanks. |
