Toshiba TV orientation
why?
22-01-2003
I have had for just over a year(out of guarantee) a Toshiba TV, just a normal 20" (or whatever they are) 4:3 set.

I noticed all the time that the sides of the screen where missing, for example when darts was on the other day, you missed half of their score, like 501 read 50. Its the same at both sides of the screen, but worse on the left.

I ignored it, I didn't think it was much, and didn't really disturb me until I saw those scores and realised it was worse than I thought.

Now I have a digital receiver and notice just how bad the whole thing is. Not only are about an inch of each side missing, but the top and bottom are weird. For example, I put the now and next bar on, it starts at about 1cm above the right hand side, and ends 2cm+ at the left hand side, that is some angle, and makes the programme guides and everything look totally weird. I know its not the receive, tried on another set.

What is the problem? When I say missing I don't mean black bars, I mean they are into the speakers! There are no black bars.

It would appear that the geometry is requiring adjustment. There are set up discs available to assist with doing so and you may already find you have one in the form of THX optimiser. You will also need access to the service menu to allow you to ajust settings. If you do try this then proceed with caution. There is nothing difficult about it but i would strongly advise you write down your current settings so at least you can revert to the situation at present.
