Rosa Di Marco
A few weeks ago there was a thread called
' Can any1 remember how these EEs characters left?' At the end of the thread there was a discussion over whether Rosa Di Marco was dead. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storyli...tEnders#Deaths http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_di_Marco Then again http://www.bbc.co.uk/eastenders/east..._rosa_dm.shtml and this is the official site! (I would have posted it on that thread but I can't find it. Also the link from google sends me to a different thread.) |

Rosa died a couple years after she left, prompting Beppe to leave sadly in a black cab.

Rosa (in EE from 1998-2000) was played by Louise Jameson,
better known as Leela in "Doctor Who" (Tom Baker era). Poor Louisa - being axed from EE along with Gianni, Nicki, etc. What has she acted in, since? |

What exactly was the problem with the di marcos? I know one of the brothers [not beppe] was a terible actor and the teen girl too. However Rosa and Beppe were OK.

I honestly can't remember any mention of Rosa dying- that proves how unmemorable Beppe's exit was!
Actually, the Di Marcos didn't irritate me much at all. I liked Rosa's maternal streak, she was a very consistent character in that respect and I recall some of the arguments she had with Beppe over his ex-wife, Sandra, as being very good (particularly the one where little Joe learned Sandra was his mum!). The rest of the clan were okay- I liked Gianni's relationship with Jackie Owen as it gave him an interest outside the family, likewise with Teresa and Matthew Rose. The character of Nicky didn't interest me at all, she just didn't seem to have a lot to do apart from the storyline which led to their leaving. |

i thought the di marco family were ok, it makes a change to have a normal family in a soap going through normal things.
i couldnt stand nicky though she was so annoying, i probaly didnt like her coz when i saw her at a charity football match she seemed really up her self |

I vaguely remember it. I remember it because it was done in such a low key way. I think Beppe got the call in the cafe and sort of casually mentioned it. I thought it was weird how someone who had been very involved in Albert Square died and no-one seemed to act like it was news.

They were going to keep Beppe (with his son, Joe and wife Sandra) on for whatever storylines after they axed Gianni, Rosa, Nicky and Teresa.
After the embarrassment of Nicky getting up to naughties with her home tutor, Rodney, they all fled to Leicester (in the Midlands) to run uncle Franco's restaurant. I do recall Beppe, or someone saying that Rosa died of a heart attack. Sadly in 2001 I think, they let his wife, Sandra leave, and in 2002, he gets axed as well as they couldn't do anything with the character they said. EastEnders producers are right morons. They tend to let the characters that people like, go and keep on the rubbish ones.

Rosa died.
Beppe left EE before this. Then he called somebody. Pat??? And told her that Rosa had died. We never saw Beppe again... |

I remember when they were written out by John Yorke he said it was because the writers basically hated writing for them and had difficulty coming up with storylines for the family. The Di Marco's weren't 'sexy' enough and there was a cheer from the writers when he announced they were going. They kept on Beppe as he was a hit with viewers but even he was eventually axed and asked to leave early, hence his abupt 'cafe phonecall' and off in a Taxi.
This was in an interview with him in the Radio Times in 2000.l |

I didn't think they were a particularly bad family. Only the grandparents and Nicky annoyed me. The others didn't.
I do recall Beppe saying Rosa had died... unless it was my imagination. |

Didn't Nicky develop a crush on her home tutor, who was the ugly old, ginger bloke? When he actually tried it on with her panicked and said he'd assaulted her. Or something along those lines.
