I was just reading this article on Outpost Gallifrey and it mentions a spoiler (from the Radio Times apparently) about the upcoming BBC7 Doctor Who drama "Blood of the Daleks".

Spoiler
The preview for Blood of the Daleks runs:

"In the first of eight new dramas, taking Paul McGann's one-time TV-movie Doctor up to the point where he regenerates into Christopher Eccleston, McGann is struggling not only to reawaken human memories of why Daleks should never be trusted but also has to deal with a mouthy new assistant (played by Sheridan Smith) mysteriously imposed on him by his fellow Time Lords."

I find this quite interesting. I wouldn't have thought that Big Finish would links their audios to the New Series. Is this true? Or are the Radio Times just guessing?

These stories were commissioned by BBC7, rather than just acquiring the rights to broadcast existing stories, so the rules might be different from the regular Big Finish productions.

IIRC, Doctor Who (1963-1989, 1996) is a separate licence from Doctor Who (2005 onwards). If this report is accurate, it looks like Big Finish have been licenced to make prequels to the current series for BBC7 (as opposed to tie-ins with the original series).

Whether this licence extends to BF's other output is another matter. I'd imagine it's limited to the current BBC7 project only.

I knew that.

I was hoping for something a little more specific.

I'm no good at specification. I'm the "where-is-the-heart-its-around-here-in-the-chest-somewhere" sort of bloke.

so these are audio dramas, that fill the gap between the TV movie & Rose? voiced by Paul McGann?

Interesting. I also thought the audio adventures were not allowed to touch on new series continuinty. Who's to say the BBC7 production team present the lead up to the time war in a different way to RTD and the team?

Among the cast of this one are Stephen Gately (ex-Boyzone) and Bernard Cribbins (appeared in one the Dalek films in the 60s)

While the brand new stories don't start till the 31st BBC7 have been broadcasting some of the older 8th Doctor Audios.

One (Invaders from Mars) just finished yesterday so next Sunday is the start of another story (The Chimes of Midnight).

While the new ones are like the new TV series with episodes of 45/50 mins and a couple of 2 parters thrown in the older ones tend to be 4 parters of 30 mins duration (like the old TV series).

Parts 1 and 2 of TCoM can be heard on BBC7 from 6pm next Sunday.

All the 8th Doctor audios as well as ones for the 5th, 6th and 7th Doctors can be bought from the Big Finish website.

Actually the producer has been on another board a bit frustrated by the phrasing of the RT description. It should simply say 'set prior to the regeneration'. He's pretty adamant that there's no regeneration in the BBC7 series or even any hint that the regeneration is imminent.

But seeing as the 8th Doctor probably died in the Time War it's probably a good thing, if we ever get to see the Time War, it needs to be visual! Same as the 8th Doctor's regeneration, if we ever find out exactly how it happened, we need to see it with our eyes.

Good point! Regeneration should be a visual thing. I guess we'll never see it though Probably because RTD and his writing bods can't think of a clever or dramatic enough story.

Well they've got the story, it'd probably just be expensive to do it, huge war throughout space and time between the Daleks and the Time Lords, not really a difficult thing to write, it's war!

A film perhaps with a big name to play The Doctor - just means that The Doctor had an additional regeneration between PMcG & CE
