I still think of muppetgate without doubt he has been the best male celeb dancer

2nd Darren ok to watch

3rd Mark When he gets it right he would be above Darren

4th Matt Still a work in progress.

Colin was amazing, I kept my recording of the great evening when he did the rumba and AS to roars of delight from judges and audience - I remember thinking: how can he not win? Then the 'journey' kicked in with a vengeance. I don't think 'muppetgate' lost it for him - Darren was clearly in the overall lead, for Zoe to go, and no-one knows whether he was catchable in that relatively short period left for voting - personally I doubt it.

Anyway, my order would be Colin, Mark, and then I can't choose - Matt's ballroom is better, but Darren had more all-round ability.

He used to make my jaw drop every single week.

After him I'd put Mark and Matt roughly equal, with each having a discipline they excell in and one they struggle in. They go up and down week to week, and I can't really say that one is better than the other.

I'd put Darren last, because I never thought his dancing in either ballroom or latin was brilliant, but he certainly had a certain 'something' that got people voting for him, and I did admire him for putting aside that very heavy macho facade and working his a*se off to become a dancer.

I'm with you, btw doesmyheadin, an all-male final would be the perfect end to the series!”

Nicely put - tho I might have used the word s*cks!

Darren had sheer exhuberance and a very outgoing personality but I would definitely put him 4th. (Still having nightmares when I see red letter boxes in case they start dancing at me!)

I agree Mark and Matt each have their strengths. Mark had more natural talent but I think Matt is much lighter on his feet. But even putting them in the sack (keep Arlene away) and making the best out of them I'd still back Colin.

If he's not in the Chrissy special I might not watch SCD ever ever again.

Bugged the hell out of me, whereas CJ was full of grace on and off the floor. Worse still, he has come across as very arrogant since.”

I take it you are referring to DG and not CJ in your last comment, maybe an oblique reference to Bookcovergate. At least Colin only pretended to dance with a muppet!

I've just had a look. Crumbs!!! That was the Christmas spirit talking all right.
Colin was definitely the best male celebrity ever and was treated very unfairly in the coverage. I never understood why taking it all gracefully made him cold or boring, as some people seem to think. He is way ahead of Mark and Matt and as for DG, I couldn't understand all the amazing marks and standing ovations he suddenly got at the end of the series, except of course that the judges felt obliged to join in once it was obvious he was the people's favourite. When I saw the rerun of his final show dance on It Takes Two last week there's a priceless moment when he was lifting Lilia, looking for all the world like a weight lifter poised for the final lift. And don't get me started on the quickstepping postbox!

Alas the sadness now I realise I dont really care for Mark or Matt and therefore it comes down to their partners and I prefer Lillia. Mark is good but I have not enjoyed a dance of his since his micgate episode, maybe he was stressed about his personal life. But he has just not sparkled. And karen annoys me.

So if Colin and erin could come back as replacements for jimmy and flavia, i think that would work! ”

Clyw clyw (welsh play on your name which means hear hear!)

A pity you weren't around to save Colin on the favourite game thread. Still you can still make your wishes known via Sion Corn.

I remember being totally bowled over by it - though I'm not a dancer - and he is still the only other celebrity apart from Jill Halfpenny to score 40 out of 40, albeit not in the competition proper. Was it really that good or were the judges just carried away by the occasion?”

I have occasionally been carried away by a red post box - but only during a hurricane - and totally against my will!!!

And yet they keep saying no-one has ever done a great rumba - tho' they appear to have renamed it rhumba - ever in the competition.

A pity you feel that way, as the way I remember it D&L ROCKED in their Quickstep in last year's Xmas Spec and totally deserved to win. Their showdance was amazing, and clearly won them the title. Camilla chose it as her favourite dance ever from SCD, and doing all those intricate lifts took alot of courage for a non-Pro, as it all could've gone horribly wrong, but they pulled it off!
If you were looking for grace, then Colin had the edge, as he had a completely different physique, but IMO it's churlish to deny DG his victory.

You can spell Rhumba either way, they're both correct depending which part of the world you come from. I chose this as my user name for forums in 2001, and have used it ever since. My real first name begins with H, so it suits me as a way to spell it, though I always did spell it this way anyway.

Colin was the best male contestant scd have ever had. Darren worked hard and improved as the series went on but I dont think he deserved to win. Mark is good but does have his off days Matt just leaves me cold I dont know why he just does

I would rate them:

Colin - Just wonderful
Mark - Great latin, still not convinced by the ballroom
Matt - Great ballroom, improving latin
Darren - Thought he looked clompy throughout the whole series

(Actually if he was up for discussion I'd stick Aled in second because I thought he was marvellous)

No contest. Colin was the best with the others lagging far behind. The only reason that people said that it is a higher competition this year is because the celebrities are fairly close together in terms of abilities. There is no clear dining line btw them as there was in previous series. Colin would have made all of them look ordinary.

Colin definitely the best by far.
Never liked Darren -thought he was overated, and way too arrogant. Feel the same antipathy towards Matt. Think Mark is good when he is but inconsistent.

If I was the winner that would be enough to give me a bit of humility about winning!”

I hadn't realised that had been the case. But I know Darren Gough was on breakfast TV just before this series kicked off and more or less admitted that he was grateful to the public that voted him the best as he knew he wasn't the best dancer

As I have said on many threads all over these boards. Darren overtaking Zoe isn't so amazing when you consider that for 2 consecutive weeks before the final she was in the bottom 2 (it is for this reason that I believe Emma will go this Saturday regardless of how she scores), despite placing higher than Patsy and James on the judges scoreboard.
And as the BBC never reveal the voting figures we simply have no CLUE as to how far or how near (or even if he was ahead) Colin was to Darren. That's why I say that rotten dummy dance cost them votes. I'd have much preferred Colin and Erin to do a rousing rendition of the Hokey Cokey than that absolute load of horse manure they did
