From Broadcast:

Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood has been commissioned for a second series and will premiere on BBC2 instead of BBC3.

Speaking at the BBC2 winter/spring launch, channel controller Roly Keating said the new series would begin filming in spring and is likely to air in the autumn. Although it has not been confirmed, the BBC Wales production is likely to be repeated on BBC3.

It is very good news IMO - and hardly surprising. It beat Lost in the multichannel viewing figures this week.

I wonder who gets the final say in a scheduling decision like that?

It really doesn't make much difference to me which channel it's on - but they'll be likely to get the viewing figures up if they premiere on BBC2. That's gotta be the only motive eh?

It will surely depend on what happens in the finale and with Jack in DW S3.

I have a sneaky feeling at least one won't be back.

Great news. Let`s hope the scripts improve now that it`s been promoted to BBC2.

This is almost certainly down to the budget. Torchwood would need to perform very highly to justify its BBC3 budget but less so on BBC2 (which has a larger budget).

It did perform highly. It was the top-rated BBC3 programme! I`ll bet BBC3 are absolutely gutted to have lost it.

Fantastic news that there will be another series. Will be interesting to see what time and day it premieres on bbc2. Wonder if it would follow the pattern of dr who with the declassified on bbc3 straight after the first airing on bbc2.

Yeah i think so too. It is likely that at least one will not see it back to series two. One of them is surely going to meet their maker in the finale?!

Yay! They'll probably have lots of new blood though. I doubt John Barrowman will make it back somehow...

I'm in two minds about that. At first I thought he'd rejoin DW 'permanently' from series 3 but given CJ's backstory here I think it's more likely he'll return to "Torchwood" (if he survives the S3 climax) in some form ie he may no longer be immortal.

I also can't see the parent programme coping with 2 charismatic leading men long-term.

He`s the star of the show - they won`t drop him. Russel T. Davis adores him..........and so do I.

OTOH, if Gwen met a dreadful end in the season finale, I wouldn`t shed a tear.

it makes you wonder what the point of BBC3 is if everytime they do something successful it gets moved to BBC2.

He may have been useful as an initial link, leaving once the show had found its own feet.

Barrowman's stock has risen in each aspect of his career so is likely to get itchy feet eventually.

I don`t think he`d leave Torchwood. He`s a big sci fi fan and a fan of Dr Who in particular.

I hope he doesn`t leave. The rest of them are expendable IMHO.

The same could be said of RTD and David Tennant but we know neither is staying forever. Just career progression.

I`m not saying he`d stay forever. But I sure as heck think he`ll stay for the second series as the first one is such a relative success.

I agree about the Gwen thing. I mean she's been so close so many times!
