If nobody was ambitious for fame, there would be scarcely any entertainers on the face of the earth. What a miserable place it would be

as someone else said so you want no celebs at all?Why shouldn't he be? Using your definition then Mark, Matt et al are also desperate to be celebrities(highly unlikely)...which by your tone is the lowest of the low...oh dear what a dull world of entertainment it will be

I have not read the rest of the thread, only Kaos' first post. Enough for me. I have met the guy, and have had regular correspondence with the man. He is just a truly lovely man, that anyone would wish to meet and have has their friend. There is one image that the media like to portray and twist, and there is the real person. I no longer read threads on anyone else, whether they are positive or not. If I have no interest in them, coming on here is not going to make me change my mind.

With that in mind, I am probably preaching to the converted.

Brendan is a treasure, and I doubt he is going to lose any sleep over those who think otherwise, as he would say, that is their opinion, but he knows that people who really care about him, know better, and that is enough for him.

So, whether you know him, or care about him, the answer is still the same. He is an absolute treasure, has a heart of gold, and one would have to look very hard to have a friend like him in your acquaintance.

Top of the tree in my book - along with Matt Cutler

I have nothing against those doing things worthwile being famous - even for Brendan to be famous for DANCING (NOT love island/reality TV shows/girlfriends).

Its not the celebrities that are actors/dancers/singer etc I have a prob with - its the Jade Goodys and Rebecca Loos of the world, famous for nothing - I just think Brendan is tarnishing his real talent by following fame rather then talent!

Don't go and sing on national TV or run around an island in your boxers! Go and dance as you trained to do - that is better and more worthwhile!

I respect Brendan more so for his comments this evening on ITT. Thoroughly agreed with all he said. I though both him and James were fair.

I have a feeling Brendan doesn't want to do competitive dancing any more and he has no partner at present. I'm not sure that teaching alone brings enough money to live on. He said he did LI to show people what he is really like - Fiji is relatively close to his home as well. He also said he couldn't turn it down, probably meaning for financial reasons. As for the singing, he probably enjoys it and wants to try it and get some training with a professional. Dancing is not a career that you can do until retirement - so why not branch out. All these things also probably help boost his potential for earning well from teaching.

I wasn't a great Brendan fan in series one - I did think he came across as a little bit arrogant BUT after watching him on Love Island - I realised that was the TRUE Brendan, as he was the only gentleman on that island - the others were just total mindless morons.

I like the way he has stood up for the other dancers against the judges this season too, and I feel for him after Claire's despicable interview. Reading Kaos's posts on this Forum too has given us a more personal view of him, and it is far, far from the horrible picture that the media paints...

I would love to meet him but know I would end up a total blabbering idiot - unable to string 2 words together

In terms of the male professionals I think Vincent, Matthew and Anton come across as the nicest and really likable on the TV.

Matthew, Brendon, Darren and James are the best dancers though.

I agree totally about the post about celebrities being celebrities for what they are good at and not this dreadful 'being famous for the sake of it' culture. That's why all these people have far too much 'influence' in the world because our children are being brought up to believe you shouldn't have to work for what you want. Brendan is a superb dancer and deserves credit for it but promoting yourself through mindless tv programmes like CLI and BB and where ever it is they eat bugs is ridiculous. To be honest, I believe if they've had a shot at fame and are no longer in the public eye they should live with it and not use cheap tricks to make a name for themselves. Impressive are people like Mark and Matt - they are celebrities in their field and if they do not win they will go back to being great at what made them famous. It just looks desperate and makes them famous for the wrong reasons. They are exactly the reason the public vote for personality on every reality show - because it's become a awful new culture.
I have against Brendan personally. He is a great dancer but I just think the world is full of talentless wannanbes (Jade Goody, Kate whatserface, Abi Titmuss...) who do not deserve the title 'celebrity'. there are more worthy people out there who work so hard to be given a chance whilst these people bring nothing but ugliness (in their manner) and make me ashamed to be living amongst them. Brendan is better than that really and should use his talent for better things. It's not wrong to want to be famous - if you have something to offer. Not just for the sake of it as they are not role models, they are merely more awful people showing children how doing nothing, not educating yourself and just flaunting yourself brings fickle and shortlived fame. how can they even be in the same (tentatively) category as 'proper' celebs like Elton John, David Bowie, Pele, Judi Dench etc etc etc Anyone who has proven themselves time and time again to have not just talent, but longevity. why would Brendan with all his skill want something like that?

He is a little bit too arrogant for me, thats all.
Dont agree with him going on LI, either. He was known for his dancing, he's good at that. (no, duh)

I always thought he was a rather hard going person based on the previous years show(didn't watch before that) and LI was what turned me on to Brendan in more ways than one so to speak!!so many people on here have said they realised he is a nice guy from watching LI.He also said he went on Li to change his public perception and I think he did just that.

Thing is when he is providing lessons for you its in his best intrests to be nice- so that you come back for more lessons and recomend him to your friends. That all changes in Strictly come dancing- its in his best intrests to stay in it for as long as possible not to make it an enjoyable experience for the celeb. The stakes are far higher.
Personally I don't know the guy therefore I won't judge him. He is an absolutely wonderful dancer and is gorgeous to boot! But I find it very suspicious that he has managed to clash with three out of his four partners. Look at Anton- there was only a reported clash with one of his four partners (and Patsy denied this). The other three ladies have sing his prasies to the roof.

True but the point is that he's given me two free lessons and he's always been supportive of me, especially after the nasty couple months I've had, and has been in touch with me constantly since I got my new job...

I know that having such a short period of time is annoying especially when people aren't getting things... I know I've lost my temper more then once giving lessons (guitar not dance hehe) for their exams...

It has to be remembered that being a good dancer does not in itself, pay bills, albeit that you gain respect from fellow dancers and dance fans alike. Most of the dancers who we now know as celebs, were never earning the kind of money they do now from dancing. Even now, the money being paid to them is not for dancing alone, but based on personality and the kind of projects they are involved in/with. Many of the dancers involved in SCD now charge and consequently get paid four figure sums for what they would have been lucky to receive a small percent of that figure previously. Some, if they are lucky make dance dvds that sell, in far greater numbers than if they had released the same material prior to SCD. Others have branched out into media work. Not everyone has been so fortunate.

I am not saying that Brendan is stuck for cash, but I also have tried to hold back my opinions on some of the projects he and others have embarked on since the onset of SCD. I was against him going into Love Island, but how wrong was I in those thoughts?? Most dancers, and people in the public eye, have a limited time to earn the kind of money that some can commanc now. My feeling on the matter is this. Whatever project Brendan embarks on, I will support him in his efforts to branch out, into different areas, and to earn a honest crust. He clearly has no intention or interest in entering the world of competitive dancing again, so he may as well strike while the iron is hot. Most of the dancers on SCD are coming to the end of their competitive days anyway, so they are using the opportunity of SCD to raise their profiles. Nothing wrong in that.

Both celeb and professional are looking to do more than win, whatever they say. All power to them.
