Cannot turn TV off when copying to DVD?
have a Sky+ box, Sony dvd recorder and Panasonic TV
when I copy from sky box to dvd recorder as soon as I turn the TV off I get a blank/black screen on the recording, the recorder keeps recording. it seems the recorder is recording what is on the tv screen rather than what is coming out of the sky box the connections are: sky+ tv output scart > dvdr input scart dvdr output scart > tv rgb scart (av2) I have set everything to rgb its a real head scratcher as I cant believe this is how it should be, any help very much appreciated ps. the dvd recorder has smartlink and tv has q link, just incase this makes any difference |

Its because you must have tv direct record, set to on,in the set up menu for your dvd recorder.
Set it to off ,that should cure your problem. This feature is quite common for the smartlink enabled equipment. Last edited by TV DUNIYA : 13-12-2006 at 11:11. |

AV2 is usualy an"out" plug so you are sending the tv signal to the dvdr. Sky+ to input dvdr (my philips in av2) dvdr to tv Av1

again thanks for the swift response
it looks to me that both av sockets on the on the tv are input/output but av2 is the only one which activates smartlink/q link I have tried pluging dvdr into av1 on the tele but with same result |

If you provide the model number of your dvd recorder, then you may get more specific advice.
Are you absolutely sure that when recording from the Sky+ digibox, you have set the dvd recorder to line 3/AV 3,or whatever number, has been allocated to the input scart of the dvd recorder. You haven't selected input 2/av2 for example, this is usually located at the front, and is av connections, rather than scart. Obviously, you will get a blank recording,as there is no connected equipment to this connection. Some Sony dvd recorders also allocate the input scart for specifically for analogue satellite receivers. In the setup menu, did you select YES to decoder, for the input scart connection,if you did, then you need to set it to NO. Prior to switching the tv off,has there been any recording from the Sky+ digibox or is the entire dvd blank? Last edited by TV DUNIYA : 13-12-2006 at 11:44. |

the sony is an rdr-gx120
av input on the dvd is av1 or line1 and the recording on the dvd only goes blank when the tv is turned off and recommences once tv is switched back on |

Thats definately the wrong scart socket, you have to connect any external equipment e.g Sky+ /video/cable stb etc to line 3,as that is the input scart. Line 1 is for connecting to the tv. Take a look at the diagrams in the manual:Sony dvdr-gx120 |

thanks TV DUNIYA
the decoder is plugged into line3 / av3 on the dvdr, so surely that must be the signal I need to choose on the dvdr - but I cant, I can only choose av1 or av2 or bbc1 etc..., (In the setup menu, did you select YES to decoder, for the input scart connection,if you did, then you need to set it to NO.) to my knowledge it is set to decoder on line 3 - I think there are several options (Im at work at the moment shall check later) I have just read a bit in the manual: if connecting to a bskyb tuner to be sure to set 'line3' input of 'scart setting' according the spec of the vcr scart jack on the sat tuner? any ideas I quess that as I'm recording line / av1 on the dvdr I really am recording the tv - and when I turn it off the dvdr loses its signal things are slowly becoming a bit clearer thanks for all your continued help |
