In any case, she's well-known and having her in the final may well get more people to watch, including people who haven't been watching regularly.”

But surely she must be, at least of late - she keeps receiving least public votes

Er, no, I don't think that. I don't recall ever saying I did think that. I was expressing my astonishment that some people seem to think some of the participants in the show (the professionals) are also somehow involved in the promotion of Emma Bunton against their will.

Now perhaps somebody would like to answer my actual question. Does anyone actually believe the professionals in on this apparrent conspiracy?

IMO, the over promotion is because Emma has an active team of professional promoters promoting her album. Its their job to get as high a profile for their client as possible. The pre-promotional budget for a pop album is enormous and Emma's participation in SCD will have seriously cut costs.

Do I blame Emma, absolutely not.
Do I think the record promotions company are in the wrong, absolutely not as its what they are paid to do.
I do, however, question the BBC's decision to include Emma in this series and not anticipate the problems it might cause.

What is going to stop every promotions company with an album to promote stalking the BBC to get their client on the programme.

Some may say that there is no problem, all the celebrities are promoting themselves in one-way-or-another. But I think it is very different, it brings in a professionalism that, I believe, will destroy the last vestiges of innocence that makes SCD such great family, light entertainment.

It wasn't actually clear to me what you meant, which is why I asked - that's all

Most viewers don't vote, so the votes don't show Emma is more unpopular than Matt and Mark without some additional assumptions which IMO are questionable.

However, maybe I should have quoted more of the OP, because the original issue was whether it made sense for the BBC to want Emma in the final and whether "It has become quite clear that she is more unpopular with the public than both Matt and Mark, as well as likely Carol, probably Louisa and possibly even Claire."

People who've been watching the show all along are likely to watch the final anyway, and they've probably been responsible for at least a large chunk of the votes. Having Emma in the final is probably more about attracting other viewers - partly just because they've heard of and have an opinion of someone who's in the final.

OH GOOD GOD!!!!!

Why can't it just be accepted that some people like emma and some people don't, likewise other contestants.

My ten year old has never watched ITT and never read a forum or newspaper etc etc - and her favourite is Emma (She is too young to remember Spice Girls)

Also - do you think ANYONE on God's earth could make Erin Boag say something she doesn't mean? - She also rates Emma.

My favourite is Matt, My husband likes Mark and Karen (Well mainly Karen!!)

Everybody likes something different that is the great tapestry of life and I would like to think that most people who vote are well able to form their own opinion.

Conspiracy theories - My arse!

Recently, I get the feeling that they seem to be promoting Emma as the 'underdog' because she keeps getting through to the following week, even though she's in the bottom two. And along with her being the biggest ever celebrity on SCD, all of the controversy over her being over-marked etc, this is just the type of publicity that the beeb need to get more ratings & votes - especially with people who wouldn't normally watch the show.

Now they have Peter Andre on ITT to punish us for complaining about the recent ITT Emma special...

Great post, Gritty. I fully agree with your assessment.
