HD Ready TV
Im looking for an HD ready TV for under £600 as the 20inch stereo TV I got the now is starting to go a little funny. Will be buying after Boxing day. I have looked in Argos but im not sure what to go for as I dont know to much about HD TVs. Also 30inch is the biggest I think I can have in my living room.

You should have plenty of choice at that sort of size within your budget. If you could fit in a 32", the Toshiba 32WLT66 gets some great reviews. I've got the 37WLT66, and am well impressed.
Digital Direct have the 32" for £610 just now. Panasonic, Sony and Samsung are all well worth a look too. |

Started doing that just this week. At lest I have had just over 10 years use out of it. A 32inich may fit in my living room at a push. Thats why I thought 30inich would be the biggest I could have.

with such a big change to the way you display the picture (eg, the classic CRT tube and modern LCD), be sure to have a look at the tv you choose up and running - on a live tv picture (not just a demo or pre-recorded dvd). Depending on how good your old tv is, and on how clear your normal tv picture is, the results you get on various LCD tv's vary a lot.

I have been looking on the Argos, Comet and Currys websites and the two sites posted above. If I can I would like to hold off till the January sales. TV in living room is working 95% of the time. Just now and again since a few days ago picture looks a little dull and it works again if you turn TV off for a few mins then back on then it seems ok for a day or so. If worst comes I got a Goodmans 15" portable teletext TV in my bedroom I could use untill I get TV in living room.

I have been looking on the Argos site at two HD ready TV but im not sure what one is the better of the two that I should go for.
Hitachi 26LD6600 HD Ready 26in LCD TV. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...elevisions.htm LG 26LC2R 26in HD Ready LCD TV http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...elevisions.htm Anyone got any ideas. I would be pluging my Freeveiw PVR and my DVD recorded into whatever one of the two TV`s I get. Darren Last edited by ney : 27-12-2006 at 22:35. |

The Hitachi isn't a true Hitachi, it's a Vestel in a dress.
The LG is brilliant, i have one myself, £449 at Comet, at the moment. The Toshiba 26WLT66 at Comet at £499 is worth a look at, too. |

Oh, and just to add, the specs are wrong about the LG on the Argos site,
The contrast ratio is 1200:1, not 800:1. There's no headphone socket either. The picture is wrong, too. The speakers are black, not silver. I would never buy anything like this from Argos, they've not got a clue! |

You can take it back if you don't like it for a full refund within 16 days, no questions asked. |

I was in town the day and ended up not going to Argos but lookat at the TOSHIBA 26WLT66
http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/p....do?sku=358169 out of Comet and the Sharp SHARP LC26SD1E 26" High Definition Digital LCD TV in Currys. http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/stor...ory_oid=-30633 I also looked at the LG out of Comet as I posted about from the Argos site. I think the LG 26LC2R (which i bought after considering the three tvs!) but if you must choose one of the two you posted, then go for the Toshiba.

The Toshiba dose really look good in Comet but I was sort of thinking about getting the Sharp from Currys the day for some reason. Anyone used a Toshiba or Sharp TV.

Well, i sell both, the Sharp is very good, but the DTV engine is very unreliable, with a software update (Via Sharp), it's very good.
Personally, get the Toshiba, it's got two HDMI sockets, and works out of the box. I went for the LG, DTV is not required by me, i've got a PVR and an STB, so it's fine, but, if you need DVB, then go for the Toshiba. |

I have decided im going to get the sharp out of Currys http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/stor...m=11&sm=0&tm=0
I have been looking at this HD DVD player out of Currys also as a sales leaflet came though the door on satyurday along with the newpaper. http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/stor...ory_oid=-30719 I already got a DVD recorder but it is worth my while getting this HD DVD player out of Currys after I get my new HD ready TV. Can i ask why you're going for the Sharp, when the Toshiba is a MUCH better TV?
The Toshiba works right out of the box, whereas the Sharp needs a software update to get the DTV working properly, also, the Sharp only has a single HDMI socket, whereas the Toshiba has two. The 32/37 inch versions of the Toshiba are widely regarded as the best TVs in their price bracket. I don't even know why you're considering the Sharp... there's no contest whatsoever! Oh, and i'd avoid the Goodmans DVD player, the chances are that the upscaler in there is no better than the one that's built into the TV, budget a bit extra and go for the Samsung DVD-HD860, i did, it's well worth it! |
