Or, in the case of the Freetime package, for your nothing (free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls for no additional monthly fee - although you still have to pay your Sky sub, of course).

OK, it's only 'up to 60 minutes' per call - so Primus Saver Option 2 easily beats it (specially when you take also having to have a Sky sub into account).

Agreed Primus Saver 2 is better up to 90 mins per call and is free to switch. Depends on your usage really. With my wife soon to go on maternity leave, the £5 was going to be a cheaper option in the long run.
Like I said depends on your usage, I would also use my landline during the day to connect in to my corporate network at times.

Sky Talk has now been ordered, takes about 10 days to go active

Yes, I can see many regular daytime users would be better off with an 'all UK 01/02 calls at any time' CPS (Carrier PreSelection) package.

With line rental left with BT though, those making less than 125 weekday daytime calls per month would be better using 18185 (4p per call of any duration to any UK 01/02 number) for the weekday calls and Primus Saver Option 2 for free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls.

For those who need to make calls to more international destinations, Euphony's £5.99/month euTalk+18 CPS package may also be tempting - particularly with its £4.99/month discount form the first 6 months.

In the meantime, why not find the cheapest ways to call international destinations HERE (click).

I am thinking of using Sky talk and would like to know if there is any difference in charges my friends would pay when calling me or are all land line providers similar in this respect?

Sky Talk is not a landline provider - both Sky Talk packages are CPS (Carrier PreSelect) - meaning you keep your BT line, continue to pay your line rental to BT and your incoming calls arrive via BT - so it costs your callers the same as before to call you.

CPS just routes all* your outgoing calls via the other provider (in that case, Sky Talk).

* There are some calls (0844, 0871) which you'd be better sending via BT - so use the 1280 prefix for those to 'hop back onto' BT.

* There are some calls (0845, 0870, 077, 078 and 079) which you'd be better sending via 18185 - so use a 18185 prefix for those after signing up with them online.

Or if you prefer to make many calls starting 0870 or 0845 free, use http://www.saynoto0870.com It has been used many times by myself to many places and I know that they are all free calls!!!!

As a result of 18185 changing some of their charges, part of the above is no longer accurate.

Now, only between 0600 and 1800 Monday to Friday is 18185's per minute rate less than BT's for 0870 calls (I couldn't believe it at first either, but it's true). They charge 6p/minute wheareas BT charge 7p/minute.

Like I said before your first port of call is

http://www.saynoto0870.com

If your number is not listed, then you may have to incur charges, by dialling the dreaded 0870 or 0845 number

I am meant to be on Sky Talk today..

Is there a way to tell its switched over from Talk Talk else will be very expensive thinking the calls I get are free, and there has been a delay in the service..

Thanks for any help.
