Just got off of the phone to o2 retensions.
After being with them for 3 years they offered me 2 of the cheapest looking phones i have ever seen. The o2 ice and the o2 jet.Or if i didnt want that they offered me £75 cash back off of my bill over the next year.
I politely said no thank you and gave 30 days notice to cancel my contract.
I may go back to payg.
Not very happy.

Just port your number to a PAYG sim and open up a new contract with O2 and then port your number back from the PAYG sim to the new contract sim...

Whilst I'm on the subject of mobile phones though - check out the latest offerings at Carphone Warehouse online and for 3, because they do some excellent handsets and some equally brilliant cashback deals.

Ive also had problems with O2 - and ORANGE

O2 - they never are there for you to help with problems and customer service - but when it comes time to pay the bill - they phone you every 2 seconds - and i agree - they offer you the absolute WORST phones - their cheap ''O2 branded''phones

and for ORANGE they say your bill is going to be 59.99 a month - and then it turns out to be 89.99

damn phone companys

Seems very strange....I've always had brilliant upgrades out of them....mind you. i drive a hard bargain!

Probably helps that my phone bills are so expensive each month tho!

Did you not complain at the time? I left O2 because of the rubbish customer service and the call charges and moved to T-Mobile PAYG. Best thing I ever did.

This time last year i got a good deal. They gave me a new nokia 3230 and a fiver off of my line rental.
I like the look of the motorola v3xx.If i go for a new contract i can get the phone for free but if i upgrade they want £150,crazy.I dont really want to start a new contract.I will think about it over xmas.

let me explain to you lot how it works.
firstly, regardless of how long you've had your contract, 1yr or 10yrs does not make any difference.
it goes on the last 6 months average spend of your contract.
if you spend anything less than £30 a month on average then you have 2 FOC upgs available, O2 ICE and O2 JET or the £75 resign credit.
The upgrade prices are on how much you spend.
O2 are a business and want to make money.
if you want an n73 for example and spend less than £30 you're looking at between £200 to £150 or there abouts.
It costs o2 at least £220 to buy the phone from nokia if they give you the phone FOC and you're spending £30 a month they're barely making any money off you so they ask for a charge for the upgrade.
so unfortunately if you want alot you have to pay alot over the course of the year.
i can see how it annoys some customers but at the end of the day thats how it is.
If you speak to retentions and are not a high spender chances are if you start shouting the odds they wont want to help you, where as if you're a decent spender and are polite then they will help you to make things cheaper of more beneficial to ya.
hope you find this information useful

Retentions are very limited with the amount of save tools they have for the lower spending customers am afraid so thats probably why they didnt seem helpful.

Got to say all I hear is bad things about o2 but I have been with them about 4 years and I have never had any problems! I upgraded in Oct and they were really helpful I got a free pink samsung e900 and they reduced my line rental from £45 to £30 for 1000 texts and 400 mins which I think is an excellent tariff! I do spend quite a bit with them altho less now thanks to the change in line rental Fingers crossed I dont have any problems with them in the future!

This is also what I was told when I complained to Head Office. They rang me back and told me that staff should attempt to match ANY current deal on the market (O2 or other network) in an effort to keep a customers business.

This has clearly not filtered down to the people answering the phones.

Does this include offers currently on the o2 website also?

I am about to reach the end of my contract (less than 30 days left) and they have some good deals on their site at the minute.
