I have a Toshiba RD85DT dvd recorder

http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/conten...TOS-RD85DT.htm

it has no analog tuner in it, so I cant pick up signals from the tv ariel (so I am told). bit of a bummer really. It also has freeview, but I cannot receive channels 1-4.

I did a freeview region check and it says I can pick up bbc1 and 2, but I cant.

also have sky hd.

is it correct that I cant get channels 1-4 through the tv ariel on the dvd? cant see the point in making the dvd, digital only with no analog receiver. so it is completely worthless to record with

Freeview is picked up via the aerial so I don't know why you've been told it dosn't use the aerial.

The main 5 channels are avialable using Freeview, depending upon location. Your DVD Recorder should have some kind of EPG to program recording. What channels does that have?
It could be something simple like your assuming the main 5 channels will be allocated channel numbers 1-5, and the unit allocates 001-005, and needs the preceding 0's.

if its a freeview device (doesnt matter if its a standard box or built into other equipment), you should get the same channels as with analogue - on Freeview. If they are missing, its most likely a problem with your aerial (you might need an aerial upgrade due to the weak signals used by Freeview at the moment). Before you do that however, some freeview devices can "play up" during a channel scan - a bit like a PC. So try turning it off - including the mains, then power back up, and do another full channel scan.
