RTD admits Torchwood is below par

DAVIES speaks to MediaGuardian:
Quote:
“I wish I'd had time to write more Torchwoods, because I only wrote the first one. We're hitting a great stretch now with four scripts in a row by women, which in science fiction is practically unheard of. It's been less than a year since David Tennant became the doctor. It was scary this time last year: Chris Ecclestone was brilliant, then he left and there was this big hole. But have you seen the BBC schedules? It's like a Doctor Who christmas. I'm very pleased, obviously, but it's a bit barmy.”

A tacit admission by DAVIES that hiring CHIBNALL was a MISTAKE and that his scripts are DOG-POO, I think. Perhaps for season TWO he'll replace him with someone more suitable (like JOE AHEARNE?) and JOHN, EVE, BURN, NAOKO and GARETH will have BETTER MATERIAL to work with.

I think you're reading too much into that statement. All RTD seems to be saying is that he wishes he'd been able to write more of them himself. Personally, I'd say the last thing we need is more scripts by RTD...

I am only working with what you gave me here... So he says he'd like to write more for Torchwood, reason IMO being he'd like to write a TW ep not that he feels the show needs it. And those four scripts by women, I think he's rather curious if they do well than saying "I'm telling you they will bomb." All IMO

No, not at all. It seems to be a very very liberal interpretation on your part, leading to a TOTALLY misleading thread title (he does not admit that the scripts are below par), and a misleading post from yourself.

YOU think (but not any sort of admission in the (short) article.

Maybe, if necessary

TW's main problem is where it wants to pitch itself. It's not helped by the controllers at the BBC not not knowing which channel it should be on. We'll see how it morphs next year.

That's about the first thing we actually agree on.

And I would quite agree. I think there is only one person that rates RTD scripts, and that is RTD.

Which is not to say that we do not owe RTD a huge "thank you" for bringing Doctor Who back to our screens, and for re-imagining it in such a fantastic way. So, thanks, RTD... now, move on and hand it over to someone who can actually write.

But do they mean it BG, or are they just after a part in the next RTD pantomime?

It is good that it came back, so thankyou RTD, but I'll not say thankyou for ruining one of the best programmes the BBC has ever made. He should have handed over the reins for writing straight after ROSE.

Did my best to avoid it as we had bought a new carpet that I did not want spoiling if I should miss the bucket.

it was basically slagging off the classic series and various members of the entourage sucking up to RTD even more by saying how wonderful he is and the new series.

Seems to me that the only people who don't like RTD scripts are the ones who post on DS, and many other websites, and were no doubt the 'fans' who are dire purists and a right pain in the backside.

But then again, that's just my opinion. I watch it, I enjoy it. it's not high art, it's Doctor Who, and it's fun.

On what do you base that statement? Everyone I know who are non-classic series fans, non-Digital Spy posters and who watch Doctor Who dislike RTD's scripts. I'm sure you might say the opposite. It's just a bit of a sweeping and inaccurate statement to suggest only internet users or classic series fans hate RTD's scripts.

Just like its a sweeping and incaccurate statement to blame him for all the ills of the series. But like I said - my opnion. I just fancied stating it for a change

He's in charge of the shows. If he's not responsible for them then who is?

I'm not sure the title of this thread reflects the actual comment from RTD.
