It doesn't, in fact it totally misrepresents the article. Obviously the OP either did not bother to read the short article, failed to grasp the points contained therein, or was using it as an excuse to embark upon some TW/RTD-bashing (although why an existing thread could not have been used for that, I will never know ).

Take into account that I really don't like either Doctor Who or Torchwood when I say this but the subject of this thread is so far from being the truth that it's laughable.

The OP has taken a quote and totally ignored it's true intent to suit his own idea. RTD said nothing like what the OP is suggesting. Ridiculous.

I just hope they get PJ Hammond back for more episodes in the second series. His episode is still my favourite of the current series (although as a huge Sapphire and Steel fan I'm slighty biased).

I can see how the comment could be spun that way at a push, but (even as quite the critic of TW, myself) I really don't think that was what was meant at all.

Even with a fairly hefty push, I still cannot see how that fairly innocuous comment could be construed in the way that the OP has.

A 9pm slot on BBC2 will be perfect. I think the nature of BBC2 drama will allow it to be that bit darker and more grown up.

I don't get why people keep slagging RTD off. Without him, the only episode in series 2 of Who that wouldn't have been a complete mess is 'The Girl In The Fireplace'. Instead, he wrote four great episodes - Christmas Invasion, Tooth & Claw, Army of Ghosts/Doomsday and salvaged the Impossible Planet 2-parter from the depths of hell. Granted, New Earth was mostly tosh (not 'Tosh', I mean total tosh) but better direction and acting from Tennant would have helped.

makes you wonder why he hired the other writers in the first place if he had to extensively rewrite them. were they not up to the job or was he worried their scripts might eclipse his. Tooth and Claw was one of his better scripts I agree but then came Love & Monsters, AOG/Doomsday which had little or no plot to hold it together except the fan **** Dalek V's Cybermen battle and Rose's departure.

RTD is a better Exec Producer than writing for the series and this is coming from someone who has liked his other material outside of Who.

TW Scriptwriters (in order)
RTD
Chris Chibnall
Helen Raynor
Chris Chibnall
PJ Hammond
Chris Chibnall
Toby Whitehouse
Paul Tomalin & Dan McCulloch
Jacquetta May
Cath Tregenna
Noel Clarke

Yet we have RTD saying

Quote:
“with four scripts in a row by women, which in science fiction is practically unheard of.”

So what's RTD saying about Noel Clarke?

Three women I count. Perhaps RTD, as a "Gay", counts as an honorary woman, or he would like Noel Clarke to be "female".

RTD suffers from what I call "George Lucas Syndrome", he comes up with some neat ideas and is great at organising the whole thing, BUT he should let someone else/other people write Doctor Who.

Torchwood is a mess, it has no coherent structure, no vision of what it wants to be. It is very poorly thought out and makes Scooby Doo look like Hamlet.

Whoever created TW put very little thought into it, and correct me if I am wrong but that is RTD.

Perhaps, but if Torchwood did have really outstanding episodes then why would RTD wish he'd written more? It seems perhaps he felt they were lacking.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I am often left thinking I wonder how this story would have panned out had someone else penned it. Sometimes people can be too close to the project they work on that they are blinded to it's faults.

"with four scripts in a row by women, which in science fiction is practically unheard of. "

Maybe he's heard of Marti Noxon, Jane Espenson and Tracey Forbes who wrote a good deal of Buffy, especially season four the one about Torchwood (sorry The Initiative) .
