You can with the navmans. The smartdesk se software that comes with it syncs your unit automatically with any updates etc. Many other great features - totally idiot proof [not implying you of course!].

Each to their own but what i would say is the after care from Tom Tom is notoriously poor. Read the reviews. Equally in their defence, many satisfied customers too. I don`t think you will go far wrong with any make you buy, the key attributes of them all are very similar.

Are you about that? I can see the software updates but not any map updates which I would assume have to paid for as with other manufacturers.

I'm waiting until they get a bit better (they are putting a Europe satellite system up in a few years instead of having to rely on the the US ones).

I've been with my friend several times when it's wanted to take him down one way streets the wrong way + I usually pick diffrent routes depending in the time of day as I do a lot of driving for my job + know the best route myself/know what roads are going to be busy at the time.

Another thing I like to do is decide which route I want to take (I do so many miles and sometimes either fancy a change of route, say if it's a nice day I might want to take a scenic route).

I must admit they are good for trying to find somewhere in London (or other big cities) where you have not been before.

I prob will get one eventually though, but not until they get a bit better/cheaper.

Nothing to stop you setting the Sat-Nav to "as the crow flies" mode then meander as you will in the general direction until you see the ETA is getting near your deadline. I often do this when touring on the motorbike aiming to hit that night's stopover in time for a hot shower, nice meal and a few bevies.
