Can this category also include those perfect songs for maudlin nights alone with the cd collection and a bottle of wine?
Songs like - 'Only love can break your heart' Neil Young. 'Who knows where the time goes?' - Sandy Denny. 'Old friends' - everything but the girl. 'Heart like a wheel' ( like the McGarrigle Sisters version) Time and time again - Counting Crows 'I wanted so badly somebody other than me staring back at me but you were gone i wanted to see you walking backwards and get the sensation of you coming home I wanted to see you walking away from me Without the sensation of you leaving me alone' fantastic! |

The words to Creep by Radiohead do it for me, especially the line;
"I want you to notice when I'm not around" really impresses me, how someone can capture that feeling and put into song.To me it is probably one of the few great love songs that does'nt include the word "baby" anywhere. It really bugs me when the likes of Bon Jovi or whoever just croon for 3 minutes 'bout "missing their baby" etc and think they have written a classic love song! |
