Auto switch-off at midnight?
rodmac51
17-12-2006
I've had this problem for some time but hoped it might be rectified in updates. But it hasn't, even the latest one.

No matter whether I have auto-off enabled or disabled, the box always wants to shut down at midnight.

If I'm dozing off (at my age it happens a lot!!) and miss the prompt, the box switches itself off.

I've reset the box to the defaults during the latest update and have often tried power cycling but nothing works. If I set a time to switch off it still prompts at midnight and switches off if I don't cancel it.

Any idea how to stop this happening?

Ok heres my settings im looking at just now with no switch off problems

TIME SETTING MENU

1.GMT OFFSET.........Auto
2.Power ON..............Disable
3.
4.Power OFF............Disable
5.

Check yours is the same and test...if it still happens do a reset and check settings are like above and test...if it still happens take your box back to shop as it not acting like other boxes

Good luck

Not sure if you have tried this

Set power on & off to something, accept this, and then go back in and disable both

I have seen this before and cannot remember the outcome, but toggling them to on and then off I think fixed it

Yes, I have tried that thanks. It works until the box next goes into standby and then it does it again. So if I never put the box in standby there's no problem, but I'm not happy leaving it running continuously just to solve what is really only an annoyance (and then only if I've managed to keep the old body awake until midnight!!).

I've had the box since it was launched so it's well out of guarantee and this has happened for ages. I just wondered if anyone else had solved the problem as I haven't seen it on any forums.

Not that this helps, but Humax give a 2 years guarantee with all their PVRs. I've read about this before and I am sure someone came up with the answer for someone before no?

That was my original post just after it first started and you'll see from my last post that I thought I'd solved it. However, I later found that it did the same again after turning off or resetting the box, hence this latest posting.

I didn't realise there was a 2 year guarantee - just assumed it was 1 year. That's a bonus. However, after a few problems in the early days (which were well documented and solved by Humax) this box has performed brilliantly in every other respect (at least for my purposes) so I doubt if I'll go to the trouble of changing it for such a minor issue. It would just be the icing on the cake if I could solve it though.

i remeber mines used to do something similar..switching itself off...after an OTA..

i tried disabling autoff but it still did it and when i went back into menu settings would be back to what it was before disabling

....I did sort it by doing something tho what that something was im trying hard to remember

Think it was something like this

my power OFF was disabled and
the power ON was 0400

....anytime i changed the power ON to disabled it would still want to power off at midnight & when i checked settings again it say power ON 0400 again

not sure but i think i set them to these

power OFF 0400
power ON 0400

then exited menu...went back in and disabled both and exited again ..after that it hasnt tried switching off since....i never turn mines off or standby..it on 24/7

basically like mentioned in above posts...try setting it to power off and power on THEN exit come back in and disable them and wait see if it works

mines did sort itself so theres hope

I'll try that but I've got a feeling I've done that in the past with no success.

It might work this time with newer firmware though? Worth a go...
