Movies By Genre Question.

When you search for Movies by Genre, via Guide/Find, Film 4 movies are not displayed, which seems very odd to me. Does anyone know if there is a reason for this?

It searches channel by channel

So it will find all films on BBC1 first and then BBC2, then ITV1 etc

By the time it gets upto the Film4 channel it has already found its 100 entries (or 250 if on the latest software), so it cannot display anymore

From what I can tell the latest software is much better with 250 results, although there have been alot of programmes wrongly flagged as films (broadcaster problem, not a Humax one)

I have just looked in the EPG and there is nothing listed for Film 4, this would explain the lack of results for Film 4 when doing a genre search. Strangly enough Film 4+1 has full listings

*EDIT* Looks like its a mux D problem, as none of the mux D channels on my box have anything listed.

Thanks for the reply. You'd have thought it would display all the films on the current day on all channels rather than work though the seven days on channels in a particular order: 250 should sort that out though.

Let's hope so. As it stands, the listing of movies by genre is almost useless as, in freeview, most movies are on Film4!

Surely, Humax should allow for searching via a favourite channel list.

With the later firmware versions 1.06 onwards - you can order the search by date rather than by channel.

Much better this way - with or without 250 found programmes.

This still does not work with Genre/Film (v 1.08). Only the first 100 films are found (by channel order). So, when you sort by date ascending or descending it only sorts the found list of 100 entries. So, films on Film4 are never listed.

At the moment, my listing contains films up to channel 13. Hopefully, when they return 250 the whole of Film4 will be included. (Let's hope they tested to make sure this is so.)

you can don;oad the 1.10 software to get 250 search results if you want to upgrade.

The 250 does return everything including film 4. I think the most I've seen it find is about 230. There has been an issue with some listings where everything is appearing as a film, this isn't the fault of the humax but the epg provider, when this happens some films might be pushed off the list.

Thanks redrob2 for confirming that Film4 appears when 250 entries are returned.

I think you have convinced me to get the null modem cable and download 1.10. I wasn't going to bother and wait for the OTA but this REALLY annoys me about the Genre/Movie feature.

I still think that Humax should default to returning the list in date/time order initially rather than channel order. As a software developer, I think they did this as it was easier for the programmer to return the data in the easiest possible way (scan the EPG one channel at a time as it is probably stored internally in this way) rather than the way that the USER would probably prefer. It's one of my gripes about a lot of software - programmers often think in their terms rather than from a users perspective. Rant over!

Don't get me wrong though!

I've monitored these forums for well over a year and am very impressed with the way that Humax have developed their software to address issues highlighted by their end users. Along with everyone else I pass on my thanks to Humax for doing this.

Up until a month ago I had a 8200T and was happy with it as I also had a Sky digibox with an old card which allowed me to watch other channels on Sky while my Humax was recording. When I decided to get rid of the Sky digibox I had no doubt that I would buy the 9200T and I've been really happy with it overall.
