What is the purpose of looping?
I mean when you connect everything by scart eg:
Tv to Sky Sky to DVD DVDR to TV Why do you need the DVDR connected to the TV? Can't you just do it this way?: TV to Sky Sky to DVDR That's how i had my set up in the bedroom, where the Sky is Freeview and if i wanted to switch between Freeview and DVDR, i just pressed the TV/DTV button on the Freeview remote. I was thinking of setting everything up like that downstairs, with Sky. Would it work? And why do some people have the loop from TV to DVDR to Sky instead of TV to Sky to DVDR? It all depends on which bits of equipment support SCART passthrough as to which ways of cabling things work to give you full functionality.

Two main reasons.
1) Not all TV Scart sockets support RGB, the best quality external signal. So if you want to get the best out of RGB sources with one RGB socket, you use loopthrough. 2)The best signal for DVD recording is again RGB. Since STB's don't supply two RGB outputs you again use loopthrough, so that your STB's RGB output can be used to both display an image on the TV, and be recorded from. Just plugging everthing into the TV and getting a picture doan't mean your getting the best picture you can. You may find most out the things you have connected are just using low quality composite. |
